Where should Stargate end up if MGM goes under?

It'd make sense for Syfy or NBC Universe to just outright buy the series and own all the rights to it at this point.

This. Syfy has shown in recent years that they can make quality science fiction. Eureka, Warehouse 13, and Sanctuary come to mind (correct me if they aren't owned by NBC/Syfy).

Eureka, Warehouse 13, and Sanctuary
I'd shoot for considerably better than that level, or why bother? To me, those are all proof that skiffy is happy to churn out mediocre product, not anything I would call "quality" sci fi, and that Stargate will never be anything better than mediocre in their hands.

I've thoroughly enjoyed all three of those programs. They are certainly better than any network science fiction, better than most of the past Sci-Fi original shows like Tremors, and better than the first three seasons of both Enterprise and The Next Generation, and to me, better than the majority of Voyager.

SG-1 was entertaining but cheesy. It wasn't untill the end that show got a budget to scale things with realism.

Voyager looked more realistic than all of SG-1 with about the same cheesy acting...maybe not as bad because Voyager didn't lean toward comedy relief.

Enterprise got better in the acting and the stories in the end but it was a poor contender for any of the stargate series.

TNG was better than SG-1. Serious stories, episodic success with out turning over the nature of it's universe while SG=1 was progressive. (which one is better is up to you)

Atlantis Wasn't better than TNG, but started way better than DS9 and had much better episodes than VOY and ENT. While SGA tanked on season 2 and 5.

It's a toss up...

To the BBC. Doctor Who shows we know how to do fun sci-fi best, we've got a surplus of forests for off-world, and the BBC has warehouses full of period costumes. Everything you need for a Stargate show.

Send it back to Showtime, and reboot the frak out of it.

No reboots! Rebooting is lazy.

In Stargate's case, lazy is good. There's no hope for it otherwise. They'll just continue flailing around forever, with more brilliant ideas like SG:U's faux-dark approach.

By reboot, I mean, fire everyone involved in this ongoing catastrophe and turn it over to people who have more talent and ambition. In fact, that doesn't even need to be a reboot per se, since the history of Stargate isn't the problem. It's a personnel issue.

Why have Emmerich (and Devlin) reboot the series? Just have him make a sequel to the original film. I'd get behind that.

Yeah, that's what I meant, a sequel to the original movie. Essentially it would feel like a reboot, though, after all that time, because they'd definately go into an entirely different direction. There were no Goa'uld in the original Stargate movie, no Ancients, etc...

It should go into the film library. This is a show based on the idea that space aliens built the pyramid and started human civilization in Egypt. It's impossible to take this crap seriously. Willing suspension of disbelief can't survive walking out of the theater, if it lasts that long. But SG1, an action/comedy series took the happy ending part of comedy to the point that Our Heroes are basically conquering galaxies. And naturally there's SF apotheosis. Stick a fork in it, it's done. We laughed, we cheered, we loved it, but it's over, folks.

^And those of us who enjoy it should do what? Watch reality TV? Rent some stupid movie about sparkly Vampires?

SGU is one of the few half-way decent shows left.

Couldn't agree more! Im liking SGU and there just isn't any space based shows anymore.
