Am I allowed to ask for advice on how and where to purchase something, or is that considered a commercial thread? If it is a violation I apologize and will understand if this has to deleted.
Yesterday I sold and shipped off my entire Star Trek DVD collection, with the intention of rebuilding my library in purely digital format.
I'm wondering where the best place is to purchase and download Star Trek in digital format. I know Amazon offers it, in SD and HD. I also know they offer the 'Remastered edition,' which I understand has new CGI visual effects, which I don't think I want, and better quality images generally, which would be good. If I'm not mistaken, my understanding is that this is the case because the remastered ST was made from the original negatives.
I would like a digital format that can be downloaded to my computer, backed up elsewhere, either in the Cloud or on an external hard drive, and also easily transferred to my Android tablet for mobile viewing. Is Amazon the best option? I don't even know any others, apart from iTunes, which I've moved away from so that's not a possibility. I anticipate using Windows Media Player for Windows 8 to view anything, at least until Windows 10 arrives.
Any thoughts would be very much appreciated. I think that today, 26 March, what would have been and is Leonard Nimoy's birthday, is an appropriate day to begin my new original series digital collection.
