Or at least this guy.

Now that I've finished Enterprise, where do I go from here?

The original series? Star Trek and Into Darkness? The novels?

I'm thinking of fanfiction. Nornally I avoid fanfiction. I usually avoid the novels too as they're more or less glorified fanfiction. But I've seen a couple unofficial season five's I might try.

I'm open to suggestions.

TATV may have sucked hard, but it did give us this one gem.

As to where to go from ENT; I say do the reboot movies, since there are only 2 of them. Then his up TOS.

Aw now, don't knock it all. There is some really quality, professional-level stuff out there.

 Duck and cover! There be Trek authors on this board!

I think I got more out of the new movies because I already knew TOS and the TOS-era movies. It was interesting to see the choices Abrams and Co. made when they rebooted and re-imagined the original elements. Plus, if you are familiar with the rest of the franchise, the little nods in the Abrams movies are more fun (Admiral Archer's prized beagle, etc.).

I know, and some actions have turned me sour. I'll take my chances.

Probably doing Star Trek and Into Darkness next.

is Enterprise the only trek show you've watched?

Because I'd suggest just running through all the prime universe stuff if that's the case. TOS -> TOS movies -> TNG -> DS9/Voyager.

A lot of the novels are really cool, especially the ENT ones continuing the series and retconning the lame-arse finale.

But I'd recommend watching all shows, starting with TOS.

As for fan-fiction, you gotta know how to pick them, because damn...our fandom is almost as insane as the Supernatural fandom.

You haven't seen all of Star Trek? Then what are you doing here? Go watch. Everything. Now. Start with TOS, then the rest.

Regarding fanfiction, I hear ST09 and ITD are pretty decent.

I usually avoid fanfiction and non-canon stuff. I prefer to let the main body of work stand on its own and go explore a new, original universe.
The only exceptions I made were the new Dune novels written by the original author's son and some other guy. What a mistake that was. :wtf: If that's what all fanfiction is like, no thank you.

I've read the Enterprise relaunch books and enjoyed them and reading the other Star Trek book series. I also liked the movie Star Trek into darkness.

Fan fiction is all in the attitude of the author. A member of my family writes fan fiction (not Trek) and actively tries to avoid the various traps such as Mary Sue characters or implausible scenarios. Brian Anderson's Dune novel seem to suffer from being too close to the source material and took a different attitude towards the universe that his father did.

As for the OP, I would try the Original Series, as the way the cast is set up is actually rather similar to ENT. I would be interested to hear your response given the timeline of events, i.e. going from ENT to TOS is chronological in universe.

There is a lot of good fan fiction out there, but, as is the case with most rabid fandoms, a good chunk of it is downright terrible. You have to know where to look or, alternatively, wade through a lot of muck to get to a decent one. I'd pretty much avoid the Pit.

Seconded.

Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness are stand-alone*, so you can watch them whenever it takes your fancy. When watching series', I usually watch two at once, alternating to keep things fresh. IMO TOS is the best and TNG the worst, but YMMV.

*that said, the more of TOS, TAS and the classic movies you watch, the more references, callbacks and wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey stuff you'll get. I've heard it described as each being two movies - one for casual fans and one for Trekkies, where parts take on whole new layers of meaning if you know the originals.
