Where does the Star Trek go from here?

Just curious is anyone knows on where the franchise is going in terms of "Old School" Trek and the new Re-Boot. The Original "Official" Web-Site hasn't been updated in over a year. And the new web-site seems to be only dedicated to the new movie. Are they going to embrace the previous incarnations or just wash their hands free of it entirely? Just curious on your guy's thoughts. Thanks

Anthony

Old school Trek will continue to be explored through books and comics.
The Re-Boot will focus on films, with ties-ins in book form.

Then there is Star Trek Online.

If a new Trek TV series ever comes about, I see no reason why it can't exist in the old timeline. In fact, it might actually help to have the current movies and current TV series take place in seperate continuities.

If there is to be a new trek series i hope they continue to move on from Voyager & DS9.

Newer, bigger, faster, stronger ships. New TECHNOLOGY please...

There will be another few generic action movies from Abrams and co, then it'll most likely die again.

Moved to Future of Trek where you all can speculate/complain to your hearts' desires.

New technology can only lead to new techobabble, but hopefully they could avoid that.

Because the chief motivation for doing a TV series would be to capitalize on the success and audience of the new movies. Without Trek XI, there'd be zero chance of a TV series. With it, the odds are still most likely against it (look at the 2010-11 pilot season - no space operas at all), but I keep hoping.

I agree. The old technobabble is perfectly serviceable.

I've always found interesting the idea that the Federation is kind of post-war/post-apocalyptic and finding it's way all over again. Maybe 25-50 years after Nemesis.

Like, they got their asses completely handed to them at some point, then eventually won out, but were decimated in the process.

Then they would have to start exploring the galaxy anew, in order to find new resources and whatnot.

Not my idea at all, but a good one.

I think a TV series has to continue with the brand re-building that JJ Abrams started. Return to the basics with a very TOS-like space opera series, revolving around a 23rd C Starfleet crew (not the Enterprise, but with movie actors as guest stars every so often) having semi-serialized adventures.

I'm saying that for the good of Star Trek, not because that's what I want personally. I'd prefer a post-Dominion-War series or a re-try of Birth of the Federation. But I know exactly what would happen to those premises - straight into the ratings toilet. :(

Unfortunately, I have to agree with you on both counts.

While I loved the Abrams film, I've never been a fan of the 23rd century. But I can understand why, if they do make a new TV series, it will most likely be set in the new universe.

But I too would personally rather see a post-Nemesis series. -sigh- Oh well, this is why I read the novels.

Yeah, because Star Trek has always been about the technology.

Not.

:wtf:
Well. Certainly part of the magic of Trek is its technology, particularly where it has subsequently made its way into real technology - the communicator. And I think we're pretty close to tricorders.
I think adding a new device or two that seems futuristic to us now would be cool. Even existing Trek technology - take the tricorder again - think of how different a tricorder could appear in terms of on-screen usage and its versatility given the development of things like iPhones.

I'm not as attached to which era a new TV series would be, so much as the idea that it should be a new crew. I'd like to see post-NEM also. Post-NEM would allow us to have stories that check in with a few TNG-DS9-VOY characters, similar to how TNG had decent episodes with "Relics" and "Unification".

I'm sure it's been touched on in the past, but as far as revisiting Trek's 24th century post-NEM, couldn't a line of canon prime universe novels be produced? Perhaps written by many of the writers of the 24th century era shows? Seems to me that George Lucas approved a line of canonical novels, in-between Star Wars trilogies, that depicted events after ROTJ, with characters that made appearences in the prequel films and remastered original trilogy.

This could be done, and I actually prefer to think of the latest Enterprise: Romulan War series as canon.

If the next Trek TV series is set before 2371 when VOY launched then the canon won't be correct as VOY would have had the technology.
This is where canon is gonna get a little tricky. The JJVerse nuTrek canon may allow them to do anything they want in series6 Trek TV.

Unless there is some time travel similar to VOY where the mobile holo-emitter, or 'mobile emitter', was a piece of 29th century technology that the Emergency Medical Holographic program was able to use after that episode for the series allowing the EMH (The Doctor) to become a full member of the crew, go on away missions, and rise in Starfleet rank which led him to commanding Voyager more than a few times as the Emergency Command Hologram (ECH).
I really liked how they were able to use that sole piece of technology in VOY for some major plot points by repurposing its technology to become an energy source, a data storage unit, amongst others.

Speaking of EMH other than as of 2376, there have been four versions of the EMH, called Mark I-IV I wonder what future EMHs will be like? Will the mobile emitter return?
