Where Do You Buy Your Clothes?

I was flipping through my latest copy of GQ Magazine, with Justin Timberlake on the cover, and was admiring his suit. Of course, most of the places they buy the outfits from are way expensive.

Got me thinking, if you have a champagne taste on a beer budget like me, where do you find stylish clothes? Myself, I tend to shop at Sym's in New York City, a discount clothier where I've been able to get Pierre Cardin suits for a decent price. I also tend to buy many of my dress shirts at Macy's, their Club Room store brand.

How about you all out there? Suggestions?

My favorite place to get clothes, mostly when they have a sale or coupons, is Coldwater Creek.
Most of my favorite outfits have come from there. Of course, it only carries women's clothes.

I also scour department stores like Kohl's, Dillard's and Penney's for the occasional item that is both reasonably priced AND actually fits my fat butt.

Everywhere and anywhere... you can nab some fantastic deals at vintage stores, or artisan markets. My mum and I bought an almost new Prada bag for £20 at a Cancer Research shop... that was about 10 years ago though, and a one in a million find!

for certain pieces I stick with certain stores, just because I know they fit me really well and I don't have to worry about stuff.

For jeans, nowhere but Express. For Khakis, Express, Banana Republic. and Macys. For Dress shirts, I stick with Express, Their button downs tend to have a wider chest and shoulders with a narrower waist so it doesn't look like I had to shove half the shirt in, and it always shows of my manly awesome chest.

For everything else, any store really, if they have something I like and it fits and it's a decent price.

For dress/ work clothes - Joseph A Bank. I like the fit and style and always get top notch service when I go into a shop.

Generally, I don't shop for clothes (they are usually given as gifts). But I like to buy blue jeans from Old Navy. My best one has a hole now (I like it still, but I'd like to actually have a pair that doesn't have a hole...).

From top to bottom.

Tops - American Apparel. Not because I'm a dodgy hipster like Philo but because of the whole ethical thing and they make good basics like this.

Trousers - Well, Jeans. These come from Jeans Direct. Good old fashioned Levi's 501's for me.

Shoes - Not from any bloody high street store, that's for sure. My shoes are bought from Walktall.

Underwear is from Marks and Spencer.

I've posted before about how dull and simplistic my clothing tastes are, so I've got loads of the same outfit.

I have no choice. Nobody sells the jeans or shoes I want in my size in stores.

And the people who actually shop in American Apparel stores are all a bit too young and cool, I feel weird just walking past the place.

I buy my clothes at Walmart and TJ Max. I don't really see the need to buy expensive clothes, its a waste of money. I like to wear comfortable clothes and there is no need to spend a lot of money on it.

Once you find something that fits the way you want it to, no big deal.

I know what base size suit I need. It comes to my house (no shipping cost) and I take it into the local shop to get it altered. In my mind, same as buying in the store.

See, I know what size I am. But different companies have different ideas of what those sizes mean. Even basic stuff like T-shirts I have to try on first because the cut of them can vary from brand to brand (hell, even the same brand has different cuts).

It's not exactly the kind of stuff I would ever pay to get altered.

Sears for clearance shoes.
K-Mart for underwear.

And might I say, I look DAMN good.

PS - Don't get me started on sizes. Does Kohls not understand there are skinny people? I'm a medium to large on polos and t-shirts, I'm a small, maybe medium there, and even then the clothing looks like blankets. I bought several pairs of jeans, all 32-36 waist and 34-38 length. The 34 inch length fits, or is even a few inches longer, then 38 inch ones.

I used to have a white summer pair a long time ago, but I gave them to charity as I realised they weren't the most flattering - made my thighs look chunky. Have you tried the 504 straight fit tapered leg? The way they sit is completely different, and they are much kinder to any bumps! The 501 are somewhat dated and are going to age you. And American Apparel rocks! Have you tried your underwear from them?

Yep, Joseph A. Bank is the shit! I used to shop at Today's Man, too, until I heard a funny joke about that now-defunct shop.

A broker I knew began investing for the hip-hop crowd, and he rolled up to a party wearing his discount clothes and in his cheap car. One of the folks took him to the side, and explained that he needed to update both his clothes and his ride if he wanted to invest money for these folks, warning him, "You can't be rollin' up here wearing no Today's Man suit and in no Hyundai!"

Yeah, I know how that goes.

I'm pretty tall, but Kohls seems to think that if you're tall, you must also be really fat. As a result, I can never get pants that fit quite right.

We live close to an outlet mall, and I do most of my clothes shopping there. To that end I prefer Brooks Brothers, Tommy Hilfiger, and Nautica. They had great sales before Christmas this year, and it's always a good place to go when they're trying to move seasonal clothes. I'll shop at Macy's and Jos. A Banks in the mall, but only when there's a sale.
I don't think I've paid full price for anything in my closet, come to think of it.
