Where did Kahless go?

I thought at the end of Left Hand of Destiny, Kahless wen't on a pilgrimage or something and said he would return when the empire needed him again. Then in A Time to Sow, he's already back. Do we ever figure out where he went and why he's now back?

I just finished and it didn't disappoint. War/Peace was my favorite read from the series. I still can't believe kahless became the UFP president! But seriously I did have one question. I'm not sure if I just missed it but was there a reason given to why he came back from his 6 month walk-a-bout in the first place?

Well, the out-of-the-box reason is because I needed to reconcile the end of The Left Hand of Destiny with Kahless appearing in the post-finale Voyager fiction....
