Speaking of Superman, here's a clip that addresses the OP's concerns, IMHO.

It's Superman from 1941. A lot of the "tech" within it is outdated by today's standards. The "mechanical monsters" are fairly laughable, and of course the modern Supes would have a bit of a problem finding a phone booth to duck into as well.

Artists have to adapt their work to meet audience expectations.
