When you were a child

We played games like Red Light/Green Light, Mother May I, Red Rover, Kick the Can, and Four Square.

At school, it was the usual stuff. Tag, "Smear the Queer" (I know, crappy name), kickball, dodgeball, etc.

As for toys and whatnot, at first it was Tonka trucks and fire engines. Later, it was Lego bricks and Erector sets. Add in Star Wars (my first Star Wars toys were the R2-D2 and Chewbacca action figures), G.I. Joe (the 3.75" line, I was JUST too young and missed the 12" line), Transformers, Masters of the Universe (BY THE POWER OF GRAYSKULL!!!!!!!!).

The usual stuff for a kid who's K-8 school years were from 1978 to 1987.

I played with girls.

;)

Brave fellow; IIRC, they had cooties. :D

when i was first at primary school, the big thing to play in the playground was Star Wars. we used to have about six boys as Luke Skywalker*, one as Han, one as Vader and one as 'a TIE pilot' and then me, the odd kid out as 'rebel pilot'.

*srsly, 'red Luke', 'blue Luke', 'gold Luke', 'orange Luke', 'green Luke' and then just Luke Skywalker. All those people claiming 'every' boy wanted to be Han are full of shit.

We usually played Transformers, but when we did play Star Wars, I always wanted to be Vader. Didn't usually get to play him (wasn't tall enough), so usually ended up as one of the Imperial Captains. Which was OK, what with getting to pretend to have a Star Destroyer and all....

Never heard of Quoits so no on that one.
I did play or try all the others, not very good at Hula hoop or Chinese jump rope.

We used to ride bikes, skateboards(small ones not like today's style), Big Wheels, roller skates with 4 wheels. We played outside all day, made forts in the woods, used sticks as guns or swords-gee, no one poked out an eye either :)

I'm glad my kids(who are now 18 and 14) had other kids to play with most of the places we lived. Even when they didn't, I made them go outside and either play together or by themselves. They would draw with chalk or play with cars in the sandbox, ride bikes, whatever. Of course, now my son's friends come over at 8:30pm when it is dark out :rommie: and ask if he can play :)...and yes, I let them run around the block and play, but only on the weekends and vacations. :)

Parents sent us out to play on weekends and vacation in the morning. I can't even remember if they cared who fed us! We just had to be home when the streetlights came on.

Hopscotch
Jump rope
Yo-yo
Hula hoop

Jumping rope... spent so many days doing this on the sidewalk out in front of my house. Oh, the nostalgia. What I wouldn't give to go back to those days, to be perfectly content playing with a rope for hours on end.
