Realistically when would production start on the next Trek TV series?
This isn't the traditional pilot and then greenlight. It has been greenlit to series and currently being sold Internationally for linear TV channels.
I'm guessing the casting will happen by February and Production would begin in April 2016.
The first marketing being the first images we get will be promotional still group photo of the cast in April or May 2016 and on-set Twitter photos by the cast on day-1 of production shooting, then leaked photos of some exterior shoots in California by some location website, then very early official teaser videos will be in July 2016.
Trailers to promote the show at these 2 major events in 2016:
Officially from July 21-24, 2016 at ComicCon in San Diego and at Trek convention in Las Vegas August 3-7, 2016. I would expect our first trailer for the pilot at ComicCon and a different trailer at the Trek Con in Vegas. I would expect the entire cast of the new show on stage at the Trek Con in August 2016 for a big marketing push.

Any thoughts on this timeline for production?

TNG was announced about a year before it aired. The casting was announced in May of the same year it premiered, 1987. So I'd say you're accurate about cast images. There will certainly be a media push for the ST movie and series starting in July.

I would like Story details to be kept a little quiet, but production design I would like to be an open experience. Images as props are made, ship design leaks, universe details a bit before launch.

With the show debuting in January of 2017, I think filming will begin in September or October of 2016 with the first publicity shots (or Entertainment Tonight set reports) of the cast in full costume and makeup released around the same time.

Technically September is probably enough time to have 13 episodes complete by January. But CBS would be crazy to not want to capitalize on the Beyond marketing and have something ready to show by the end of July. With Star Trek Beyond being released during SDCC I wonder if they could do a joint event.

Which weeks new do mid-season shows premiere in jan.2016 for a date estimation. The night of the week it premieres may not be the night of the week it is available on CBSAA. Also will CBSAA start their run in January or February?
Also a big question in US (on CBSAA) vs foreign TV:
Since it will be worldwide concurrent release it will be available one episode per week not all episodes at once.

What time will it be available on CBSAA? E.S.T./UMT/GMT? Or locally regionally say only at 8PM depending on timezone or the 110 CBS live markets?
Since delivered weekly if 13 episodes it may still be in post-production while it is airing. Find out what night airing in foreign markets.
Expect illegal torrents to get CBS broadcast of special preview 24 hours later and have time for internet buzz to build. Maybe it previews on CBS 2 weeks before it airs weekly on CBSAA and worldwide?
Foreign language broadcast versions on illegal torrents.

Is Entertainment Tonight still on television?

My guess is that they start shooting next summer.

They should know the series arc/story by now then I hope, else a live action Star Wars series will devour it.

CBS self-promotion machine

Is Entertainment Tonight still on television?
Still going strong after 33 seasons. It's now owned & syndicated by CBS.
In 2009 before STXI feature film release Entertainment Tonight had a about a week of promo pieces. One every day.
Expect ET to have set visits during production and do their own interviews with most of principle cast of the new TV show. That is months before it premieres on CBS and then on CBSAA.

From the director of ENT's pilot "Broken Bow" production in 2001:
the episode's production "ran very smoothly." "Our hours weren't too bad [....] Given all those things [the multitude of new sets and complex action sequences as well as the rare length of time spent on location], and with all the complications that we had, I thought it went incredibly well." (Star Trek: The Magazine Volume 2, Issue 7, p. 47) In addition, Conway reminisced, "The shooting was a delight, I had a great time every day [....] [It was] a great way to spend five months." ("To Boldly Go: Launching Enterprise, Part II: Boarding the NX-01", ENT Season 1 Blu-ray special features)
-memory alpha website source.

Five months?
So they will be in pre-production at the latest July 2016. They will want a trailer on the blu-ray of the TrekXIII feature film in November 2016 so I'm sure that will be a major goal of the CBS execs. Although to hedge their bets they will most likely have a trailer for SDComic Con & TrekCon in late Summer.

They're probably already in the very early stages of prep - story bible, design asthetics, casting etc. A lot depends on whether its going to be binge-streamed or weekly episodes, and how long the season is - my guess is 18 episodes.

Agent Carter begun filming on August 31st for a January release. So most probably that will be our time frame too, maybe a month earlier. Pre-production for the sets and CGI model should begin earlier than that, so we might have a ship render by that time. I too think that CBS should capitalize on Star Trek Beyond for at least a teaser trailer at least, CGI work could be well under way by than ...

If they're smart with it, the first glimpse at it will be offered on theaters with Beyond.

I hope there will be a big surprise in the first episode that wasn't in anyway spoiled or even alluded to in the marketing. Something totally unexpected, not really sure what it could be, tho (thus, unexpected! :) )

I wonder how much Beyond's critical and box-office success will influence the hype for the TV show, them not being connected to each other story-wise? Should give them a nice boost if Beyond ends up being the best of the new movies.
