When WORFS collide

The departure of Yar allowed, as we all know, for Worf to step into the upper-ring of TNG characters. Can you name another character from the various STAR TREK TV shows that took advantage of another character's departure or 'down' time from the show???

Most of the Voyager crew did ... the first officer, engineer, doctor, helm, etc.

Ensign Ro, after Wesley left.

Commander Worf, after Riker left.

Ro, definately. But I can't remember when Riker ever left the show. Are you talking about a book??

I guess you could say that some of the other characters on DS9 took a step backwards after Worf came to the show and brought some much needed muscle...same thing can be said about the crew of Voyager taking a backseat to 7/9. But that would be the yin to my yang I suppose..

Yup. Riker went to be cap'n on the Titan and Worfboy got promoted to first officer, as of the last year in the books.

if i remember geordi sp? went from a bridge position to engineering when the then chief engineer died?. think it in either the first series of tng or the second cant remember exactly when.

also Chekhov took over as navigator or helm when styles left in tos

Well if Data wouldn't have died he would've been first officer. Im not ragging on the novels i just don't read them so I don't count them as part of canon.

I really don't think there is anybody else. Other than Denise Crosby, Jennifer Lien, Terry Farrell, and Wil Wheaton no major Trek actor ever left the show. Terry and Jennifer were replaced by brand new characters, and Wheaton wasn't really replaced(unless you want to say O'Brien got more screen time, maybe).

^^^However, although Sisko left DS9 at the end of season 6, Avery Brooks was still very much an active part of the show, so I don't think it really gave room for Nana Visitor to have more screen time than before.

Actually we have no idea what happened to any previous chief engineers of the Ent-D when Geordi took over. As of season 3, he was just there, with no explanation as to the circumstances under which he took over engineering.

AFAIK, this hasn't been explained in the novels either.

^^^^Not to pick nits, but it was season two. As to why, if I was captain, I sure as hell would have fired the Chief Engineer after The Naked Now!

When Janice Rand left TOS, a host of beauties stepped in to give Kirk someone to ogle.

Damar certainly fits the bill. When Dukat had his breakdown in "Sacrifice of Angels", Damar took his place and became a much more fleshed out character.

Awww I was just about to post this...:(! But yes you are correct. Dukat's breakdown lead to Damar's super-Cardassian glory later on in the show.

Obviously Kai Opaka's leaving in Season 1 allowed for the Winn Adami character to take her shape in the series.
