When will we get a firm release date?

The Borgified Corpse

I'm very much looking forward to this movie. So much so that I want to be able to take the day off of work to see it. But in order to get that vacation day, I need to know when it's coming as soon as possible.

So to quote Captain Picard in First Contact, "The date, Mr. Data, I need to know the exact date."

The exact date has been provided... Thursday December 25, 2008. Since it's Christmas day, you'll probably already have the day off.

Is 25 Dec an international release date or just a US release date though?

Last I heard, Australia was supposedly recently confirmed as 26th. It was going to be about a week later, but someone changed their mind.

So will NZ get the same release date as OZ? or will we have to wait until 2009 to see it in the cinema?

True.

Damn. Abandoning my family on Christmas to go see a Star Trek movie. Of course, I'll do it, no question. I just wish they could understand. :( :p

Although, Star Trek movies have often been a present for me. I still have fond memories of my father taking me to see Generations on opening night for my 12th birthday. And the last 2 movies began principal photography on or around my birthday. Now it's a holly, jolly Christmas.

It's already set. Christmas Day of this year. 11-1/2 months from now. A long-ass wait, but after more than five years since the last TREK movie and almost three since ENTERPRISE was cancelled I can hold out.

over on trekmovie.com, Robert meyer burnette weighed in same as me and others here about xmas being WAY too late in the month to be releasing a trek movie.

Then again, next xmas looks to be very very light competitionwise.

Beats bringing it out in the middle of the summer or Labor Day week/weekend. Most TREK films do better if they're released in the late fall or the beginning of winter.

True, but that was just announced in the last 24 hours or less. As of yesterday the Christmas date was still what everyone had been told.

Ouch! Ironically, December 19 might be worse for me. The store is closed on Christmas anyway but they severely limit vacation time during the rest of December. Frankly, I keep hoping they'll push it up to early November.
