When will society create the retractable toilet?

If we're going with raising ones, maybe include user settings per person for height as well as personal music settings too:lol:.

(Still, it's better than the tilted toilet idea)

Use setting for height is actually a great idea. One that should also be connected to new chair and couches and beds. We got tall people and short people. Wouldn't be nice if everyone had a chair that was easy to get up from?

I have great news for you: society has already created the retractable toilet. Here are some examples.

Am I wrong but wouldn't this be a must have option that everyone want for their home when they find away to do it?

I don't really think everyone would be clamouring to get one of these, because:

I think toilets should be kept simple. More moving parts means more possible points of failure.

Once you introduce moving parts into something, you make the system more complex, and more prone to issues. So in addition to all the regular issues that can happen with a toilet, you now have to be concerned about what if the mechanism for moving in and out of hiding fails. You're not going to be very happy if you really have to go, and you can't get your toilet to come out of the wall! ;) And then repairing these issues when they occur (or replacing the unit entirely) is going to cost you money that you wouldn't have had to worry about with the old-fashioned stationary toilets.

You do mention space issues, and that does seem to be the main selling point of these. So I can certainly see them being used in tiny homes and apartments; I just can't see them being used everywhere.

(Also, just to let you know, I am going to correct your "toliet" typo in the subject line for you.)

not be connected to my phone so google can make me look at ads for metaucil for a week every time I order my toilet around over wifi

You know that everyone who clicked on this thread is pretty much already doomed in that regard? ;)

How about if it ascends into the ceiling

Also I think it needs to dramatically drop down or rise up with triumphant music. The music should be mandatory if you want this kind of toilet installed.

If I had the talent, I would make a gif from First Contact where the Borg Queen's head descends from the ceiling, except replace that with a toilet. Alas...

i'm not sure about persons.... but you got these guys:

I *think* Kinja only allows hotlinking within the Gizmodo family, so I have converted this to a link. If they do allow third-party hotlinking, please direct me to the relevant part of their T&C, and I'd be happy to reinstate the inline image.

Moviepilot and Alamy are a little more clear-cut, so they have both been converted as well.

No need for toilets. Just beam out the crap from the body straight into space.
Or better yet, downtown New York City. They probably wouldn't even notice.

Now about this retractable toilet idea. I'd hate to be the plummer who worked on those pipes.......

I would love to design a house where all the pipes and plumbing are made so that there can be no water damage to the rest of the home--a small outbuilding where water runs into a trench to the outside.
