When Trek Fandom Runs Amok

Ladies and gentlemen of the TrekBBS. And invited transgendered species:

As part of an assignment, I was asked to create a creative resume that would get an employer's attention. This is the result:

Is this creative genius? Or is this an homage gone horribly wrong?

I will let you, the viewers, decide.

Select details include the following:

What is normally called the 'Objective' is now called the 'Prime Directive'
Employment History is now 'Previous Postings'
Education is now 'Academy Transcript'
Other Achievements is now 'Special Commendations'
Volunteer Experience is now 'Field Experience'

I wouldn't actually send it to an employer, because the attention it would likely get is the wrong kind ... but, strictly speaking, it does meet the objectives you were given. Is this for some kind of class?

It's pretty funny.

I agree, clever. Suicidal but clever.
In one of those "get your resume noticed" articles they mentioned one where a guy sent in a ransom note made of pasted up letters. "Contact me for an interview or you'll never hear from me again!"
...and they never did.

If you really want to take it to the next level, make it look like you're reading it on a PADD from TNG.

Somehow, I see this ending with your drug-bloated corpse in the East River.

I'm not sure why.

I gotta say, that's pretty cool. And clever. And creative.

I'm dyin' to see whether it's a little more "creative" than the instructor bargained for!

Yeah, this is pretty great, I'd never have thought to use those kind of terms, let alone the seal and what not. Good job making it sound very trek like. That should give you a few points for creativity, hopefully.

A resume that gets an employer's attention is a pretty shitty assignment, I'm sure a resume with a pipe bomb inside would get their attention, but they wouldn't want that :p

I once sent a very serious application letter and resume to be considered as a researcher for a popular TV kids' show here in Australia in the late 70s. I received a very polite, encouraging, almost-apologetic, personalized reply from the on-air presenter, who was also the producer. Very exciting!

About six months later, a magazine did a story on all the wild and wacky applications the show regularly received from people desperately wanting to be on-air reporters or behind-the-scenes researchers and writers.

I never had a hope. ;)

Ha, that's cool. If I got a resume like that, I'd at least read it through. This is probably why I'm in no position to read resumes or act on the information therein. :(

It might help you if the job you were applying for was at Creation Entertainment, or ThinkGeek.com .
