When the DVD comes out

Crewman47

Not sure if anyones made any posts about it but when it comes out on DVD will you pick at it more, trying to pick out things with freeze frame you couldn't get on the big screen or will you just watch it a few times here and there and just emjoy it?

Just curious as when it does come out I'll probably just watch it and try and spot things and references I didn't see on the big screen.

That is exactly what I'm hoping to do with the DVD. My sister and I were going to go see the movie in IMAX, but at the time there were only midnight showings and neither of us is a stay-out-until-2-a.m. kind of gal, so we were pretty disappointed...

Until we realized that we could buy the DVD for about the same amount of money that two IMAX tickets would cost and then we could look for minutia to our hearts' content.

I'm never any good at picking out the details. I'll just be watching the story over and over and over and over again :)

I'm really looking forward to everyone else's screen-caps though! I love stills from movies. Plus the addition of Trek XI to the movie caption competitions. :techman:

Obviously I'll want to freeze and drool over some of the Enterprise shots, but otherwise I can't really think of anything else I need to analyze. Maybe some of the Kelvin scenes, since we only got a brief look at it.

I'm definitely looking forward to the blueray coming out though. I have a feeling I'll be able to rewatch it endlessly without ever getting bored.

I'm sure I'll do both--watch it over and over and over, freezing and picking out the things I missed, until one day I realize I know the entire script by heart and realize I need to get a life. My family's already thinking of staging an intervention because I've seen it nine times. Imagine what I can do with it in my hot little hands. Plus I hope to buy it off iTunes when that becomes available, so I can have it on my iPod.

Hmm...maybe an intervention is in order.

I will be watching the movie for entertainment purposes--over and over again. Oh yeah, I'll probably slow it down to a crawl when Spock walks by Uhura in the final frame, 'cause I want to see what kind of look he gave her that provoked such a glorious smile.

I'm sure she was just happy to see that they'd be serving together on the ship.

I think the sequences I'll be rewatching the most are when the Enterprise first undocks from the station (love the music and all the activity surrounding it), and that final scene of everyone on the bridge (that really makes you hungry to see them in another adventure).

Since I've seen it 20 times (15 in IMAX), I'm not sure how I'll respond to the blu ray. I do expect to see a ream of minutiae issue forth from it into these threads. So stack your duds and grease your skids; we have work to do.

Definitely rewatch and enjoy it over and over again! :)

But I'm all up for examining and pouring over everyone else's screencaps (bc frankly I'm too lazy to make my own lol).

Wow, even if all the tickets were free, I don't think I could watch it more than 5 times in a theater.

Not because the movie's not worth it, but just because of all the time and hassle of going there, dealing with annoying crowds, sitting through the same old trailers again and again, etc....

I just don't understand how you guys are able to do it.

It was more a case of preventing myself from doing it. It was just a craving; but I think it's over now. Every time I get the urge to go now, I break out in hives.

It was actually no hassle to go; it was a pleasant drive, and the theater was nice. Even on opening weekend, they handled the crowds well, and it was fun.

^ i would have given up my youngest to see it twenty times.
Well, she's 15-1/2.
These days i would trade her for a case of anal warts.

Pshaw. I saw it 12 times (I think). All of them fun. First times were full theaters of folks just enjoying it. The last 5 or 7 times... fellow Trek geeks, reminiscing about all things Trek. And there was always at least one young newcomer, who needed suggestions on which TOS episodes were must-sees.

NOT that it was Trek inspired, (I have witnesses), but by the time the DVD comes out, I will have bought that big screen TV ,Blu-Ray player, awesome sound system and pretty cabinetry to put it all into. I'll just have to baptize it with multiple Trek viewings.

I'll buy the DVD version (2 disc) for the special features and the 'digital copy' that I like they're including now..that way I can drag it around on my ipod.. :)

Wonder how they'll improve the 'augmented reality' feature? The original was pretty cool but still a bit gimmiky..

Cheers!

'Augmented Reality' can be checked out here http://www.experience-the-enterprise.com/ww/ it was a gimmick using a webcam to insert a computer user into a computer generated graphic (bad explanation). Just go check it out, it's a neat idea but in its infancy right now. I like the idea that they're trying new things though.. :)
