When does Politically Correct become Politically Incorrect?

Maybe I am crazy, but as I understand it, second hand smoke can hurt you over a long period of time... I don't imagine that if I am waiting at a stop light and the guy next to me puffs a few then that is truly harmful to me. I always imagined that if I lived with a smoker, there would be potential harm. Still are there cases of cancer through second hand smoke?
Seems like that is an easy lawsuit.

Yeah, a couple of whiffs of a cigarette is not going to do you any harm. People that get hysterical about such a trivial matter are usually just doing so because they can. Because society has decided that smoking is bad and smokers are legitimate targets to take out frustration on.

I'm in favour of the laws banning smoking in bars and public buildings etc, but these bloody whiners just make me laugh. If you are scared of catching a bad smell then you should probably just not go outside at all.

I would be so much more okay with people smoking around me if the stench didn't attach itself to my clothes!

I got to a point where I had to buy a separate "going out" jacket so that my other jacket wouldn't smell like smoke. Fresh smoke is fine to me. Stale, week-old, stuck-to-my-clothes smoke smell gives me some of the worst headaches.

^ Sure, but that shouldn't be a problem any more since you can't smoke at "going out" places.

I was thinking more of the people who get all shocked and offended when they walk past someone sitting on a bench smoking a ciggy. That kind of nonsense really annoys me, it's just being adversarial for the hell of it.

Yeah, I was just kind of ranting. It's not a problem anymore now, though there are still plenty of places in the US where smoking is still legal in public buildings. I get plenty of bar patrons from other states that bitch about having to go outside in order to smoke.

I'd be happier if everybody stopped smoking, but I have plenty of friends that smoke, and I don't hold it against them. It is what it is.

My local pub has got around it by building a balcony attached the the pub and enclosing it in a sort of clear plastic tent thing, there's tables and ashtrays so you can take your drinks out there, but it's all enclosed so there is no wind or rain or anything. Technically it's outside, although it's very much like being inside. When the summer comes they take the plastic away and it's just a normal outside balcony which are legal to smoke on anyway in this country.

As an ex-smoker I have no problem with the smell, so I am quite happy to sit out there with my smoking friends. Of course it still draws the ire of the whiners who now complain that they can't go out on the balcony which was never there before

And yet, it seems people who are around cigarette smoke a lot end up with more lung issues than drivers. So, apparently it is worse.

Yep. I can introduce you to at least three of my family members who would agree with you. In fact, I had an aunt who never smoked, die of lung cancer less than a year after my uncle (who did) died of it also.
