When does Politically Correct become Politically Incorrect?

Political correctness was created by folks who grew sick and tired of being told by others that they're asshats for being, well, asshats. When I was a kid being politically correct was just called being polite.... You know, demonstrating a respect for other beliefs and ideals even if you might disagree. Really, had the term been around fifty years ago we'd have all heard statements by segregatonists decrying how it was now fashionably politically correct not to call black people niggers.

You, sir, have won the Interweb. :techman:

^Because things such as putting on "war paint" or doing things like the tomohawk is just straight rude. God, I'm such an asshat. ;)

Psst. "Ma'am"

Now, it's happy holidays... and honestly it's one of the most annoying peices of political correctness i've encountered.

I think that's more an American thing. I think because of the prevalence of Jews there there is a pressure not to offend them.

Here in Australia we don't have as many and they don't have as much power so it's still"Merry Christmas".

Although at the rate they're bringing muslims into this country it's going to be "Happy Mohammed Day" or whatever pretty soon.

The second biggest religious demographic in the US would be Jews. Why would THEY want "Merry Christmas" being harped at them all the time? It's society recting to the needs of an emerging demographic with political clout and influence.

Notice I never said it's a bad thing. It just is.

Fact that I LOATHE "HH" as a greeting has more to do with it being an "American" term, kinda like "Have a nice day", which makes a lot of Australians want to wretch and punch the person saying it. It just sounds SO twee and false.

Okay, so it's just your opinion. I'll have to disagree with you then and suggest you look elsewhere.

I read that Jews were 2% of the population. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I watched "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" tonight and Steve Martin wished John Candy "Happy Holidays" so apparently this liberal, secular-humanist, Christmas-hating conspiracy has been around since at least 1987.

Or, you know, a bunch of whiny little Christians need to grow up and stop throwing a hissy.

Where do you get that load from?

Pulled it out of his ass like most of his comments. Jews represent a whopping 1.7% of the US population, but of course they secretly control the country in his view.

Which says much more about your complete irrationality and frequently mentioned hatred towards anything American (and Jewish and Muslim too, apparently) and anything else that's not like you.

Ok, seriously..... NOT CHRISTIAN. Read the op before making blank statements like that. I've said this a couple times in here, but apparently you're to busy trying to trash on people who are christian to pay attention. I've also said the my issue is not with the phrase itself. The phrase was simply brought up because now adays, not in the 1980's, people are being told that they aren't aloud to say merry christmas, happy hannakuh, or anything else BUT happy holidays.

^ She could have been talking to any of the whiny Christians in here you know, there's quite a few of them ;)

You posted the topic, that's her opinion on the topic, no need to take it personally.

So, people can only make complaints about the subject so long as the complaints can be applied to you personally? ;)

Bingo. It was a general statement. If I was talking to anyone specifically I would have quoted them.
