when did you know the movie was going to be a hit?

That trailer with the awesome music and Pike and Sarek, and Kirk sitting in the Captain's seat for the first time.

That is one of the best trailers ever produced, and sometimes they betray the reality of the movie, I just knew this one didn't.

Re: when did you...KNOW!

I was already agog at the Rotten Tomatoes rating before I went. Basically, my jaw was dropped the whole movie on that Thursday sneak-preview night.

I think I started to come out of it the next night when we went again. I started to know it was real. I'm still going (#14 tonight) and still infatuated.

Wow, I feel like such a weenie having only gone 4 times! I kind of suspected it would be a hit after the Rotten Tomatoes score remained near 100 throughout the week leading up to the movie's release. Then I saw the movie that first Friday and it was obvious from the very beginning that this was a very special movie and was going to make a lot of $$$.

How many people on this board will only see it once at the cinema and then only again years later? Surely more than me. I really enjoyed it but once you've seen a film it's going to be a long time before I see it again. Even Blade Runner I only watch once every 5 years or so.

I actually knew before I saw it. When Paramount kept assaulting everyone with ads in every commercial break on every channel...I knew they knew they had a hit.

When my non-trekkie friends saw the third trailer, and they wanted to see it opening night. They have now been assimilated :borg:.

Ha ha...I agree!! You may have something there. Because thats about the same time the 'battle's began here on this board. Once the hardcores didn't like the ads, and I did, and my wife did, I guess that was the start...

I think it might have been when we got to the "Why are you even talking to me, man?" scene where Kirk has the cotton balls up his nose. That's when I realized that the movie wasn't going to take itself too seriously and provide quite a bit of fun.
It assuaged the fears I had from the opening scene with the birth (which I hated) as well as the kid in the car.
