When did Vader find out Luke was his son?

^ I don't take any note of the EU but if people want to, that's fine. I have to admit, that what I've read of the prequel-era EU has been a lot better than the post ROTJ stuff, IMHO.

I'm not sure why you think Obi-Wan would have assumed Yoda was dead. He was alive when they last met, near the end of ROTS. I think Obi-Wan would have been force sensitive enough to sense Yoda dying, had he died before Obi-Wan himself did.

it's postulated in the Thrawn trilogy that one of the reason why Yoda stayed on Degobah it allowed him to hide from force sensitives so he wouldn't be found. Of course ROTS sort of knocks that on the head.

Though how sensitive were the jedi really when one of their number died. Sure they seemed to feel things if they were close by (I guess you'd say it was a resonance). But if they felt it everytime one died then things could get pretty bad.

It only seemed to be huge calamity such as the destruction of Alderaan that gets felt.

^ As I say, I don't really take EU into account.

While I suppose it's fair to say that a Jedi couldn't be expected to sense through The Force the death of every single one of his comrades, given how few there were left after Order 66, I do think one as strong in The Force as Obi-Wan would have been able to sense the death of Yoda, one of the most Force-gifted or sensitive beings in the galaxy.

Remember also, that at the end of ROTS, Yoda taught Obi-Wan how to communicate with Qui-Gon's spirit. Surely Obi-Wan would have expected to be able to talk with Yoda if the latter had died? i don't know whether or not Yoda and Ob-Wan were able to communicate from Dagobah to Tattooine (and I doubt it) but I expect that if both were in communication with Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan would have known that Yoda was still alive.

I meant that Lucas should have written it in such a manner that he did have reason to think so. Because there's no reason Yoda and Obi-Wan couldn't have taken out Sidious and damaged Anakin. Then again, the fact that they split up for their separate duels makes no sense either.

I think the reason for the simeotaneous attacks was to hit them when they weren't expecting it. If they double teamed Vader and took him out, then they'd never get to the Emperor. If they double teamed the Emperor and took him out, then they'd never get to Vader and he would just become the new Emperor.
