When did DS9 lose gas?

DS9 never lost gas. In fact, with each season it only got better and better.

If anything, I think they peaked with season 6, and season 7 was not better than 6, but, it was as good as 5 was, and that didn't mean it was half bad. In fact, it only means that 6 was the greatest season of modern Trek.

I wish they'd gone a few more seasons... I'd have loved that.

I dont think it ever lost gas. The series kept me interested and entertained right up until the end. Some episodes were not as strong as others, but enjoyable none the less.

Uhm, never.

It never lost gas. It could have gone a few more seasons.

I didn't think it every lost gas.

In fact, I felt season 1 was by far the weakest season, and season 2 the second weakest.

After that, it just got better and better.

I agree 100%!

I'm with them...never lost gas...I wish it was still running. :bolian:

In my honest opinion, DS9 peaked with the 6-part occupation arc at the beginning of Season 6.

Sure, we got a few wonderful gems afterwards such as "Far Beyond the Stars," "In the Pale Moonlight," and Section 31, but the latter-years of DS9 without the creative participation of Robert Wolfe was like TOS season 3: a few gems sprinkled along a whole bunch of "mehs" (The 10-part Final Chapter excluded, of course.). :borg:

Infact, when I owned DS9 on DVD, I purchased Seasons 1-5, but only decided to rent Seasons 6-7 from Netflix.

DS9 never lost gas, but almost all shows have their peaks, DS9 included. A former great internet critic Jose Gonzales (I may have misspelled his name) once did a good writeup in which he mentioned that DS9's peak went from 3rd season's "Through the Looking Glass" up through 6th season's "You Are Cordially Invited." I tend to agree with that and I think much potential was squandered in the remaining 36 or so episodes. Still in those 36 we got GREAT stories such as "Waltz", "Far Beyond the Stars", "Inquisition", "In the Pale Moonlight", "Shadows and Symbols", "The Siege of AR-588", "Chimera", "Strange Bedfellows", "The Changing Face of Evil" and "Tacking Into the Wind". Plus a bunch of solid to very good episodes to boot. Not too shabby. And two of those great episodes (ITPM & TITW) go into my top ten DS9 eps of all time. No shame there. Besides if a show can have a peak extending from late third season up to the early sixth season that's nothing to sneeze at.

When Dax died, it kind of changed the dynamic in a certain way. Thus, I'm not certain I'd say it 'ran out of gas'. However, it didn't feel quite the same to me.

Overall, however, Seasons 4-7 are a foundation of excellence... :techman:

It never really lost gas. The first half of S7 started to make me wonder, but fortunately the Final Arc was right back to top form again. But even so, by then I knew an S8 would have been pushing it. It was good that DS9 went out on top.

It started out a impulse but hit warp pretty when: The Jem'Hadar came out. From there on out it was great.

I would've liked if they had on to do 9 seasons.

DS9 with 9 seasons... Would've been cool!

The show definitely had it's ebb and flow (as did they all). For me S1, as clunky as it is, is very watchable. S2 and S3 were good but not consistent. The dominion war was more interesting to me on a regular basis. The show had it's ups and downs and, at least for me, the later seasons dragged on although it picked up at the end there for a bit.
