When Charlie Evans came aboard

What was with that second, seemingly random, "When I came aboard!" at the end of Charlie X. when the Thasian came to take him away? Did they just mistakenly loop the dialogue?

^Exactly right!!

That was clearly a mistaken repeat of the line--it makes absolutely no sense for him to say it twice. I was watching the episode again about two weeks ago and that sticks out like a sore thumb.

Our resident TOS script expert might confirm that it wasn't it the script, but it seems a minor question.

Anyway Sir Rhosis, if you get the chance, I'd be nice!

Yeah, I was slightly joking with this question, but I figured somebody here might actually know the story behind this seemingly obvious mistake. That part has bugged me I think ever since I first saw the episode many, many years ago. It's just so out of place.

It wouldn't surprise me if somebody put together a video of that episode (or parts of it) with Charlie yelling, "when I came aboard," at random intervals throughout.

It was just a really awkward dubbing snafu when the episode was put together. Nothing more. But nobody ever went back to fix it so it's remained for more than forty years.

The post production for the first quarter of Season 1 was done under EXTREMELY fraught circumstances - they came very close to missing their episode deadlines several times. It is amazing MORE goofs did not show up!

Really, how nice would you be? :D

I need to start doing vanity searches on my name. I almost missed this thread. Actually the July 5, 1966 Final Draft script is no help, as the lines were changed between the writing and the filming. In this draft, Charlie says: "Please don't let them take me. I can't even touch them."

Then, as he starts to disappear, he says: "They don't care... not about anything... They don't LOVE ANYBODY... THEY... PLEASE... DON'T LET THEM TAKE ME."

Sir Rhosis

oops!!!

I meant "It'd be nice." I don't swing that way:lol:

But yeah, script verification of not--it wasn't meant to be said twice.
