Wow. That really does put it into perspective! Parents went to San Antonio in March. They originally planned to go on to houston but found plenty to keep them occupied in San Ant. They really loved it!That's only the western half. The eastern half is farmland or marshland. Texas is a very big place. You could fit 10 European countries in Texas and still have room left over. So saying Texas is mostly desert is like saying, "Well Spain is pretty dry, so most of Europe must be desert." Houston averages about 49/50 inches of rain in a year.

This is an aerial shot of downtown; it's hot, swampy, and covered in concrete, next to Buffalo Bayou and there are many bayous and rivers in the surrounding areas.
