what's your local weather?

It’s pretty bad in some areas. We still don’t have power and don’t expect to until at least tomorrow night.

^ that sucks. Hope that gets sorted for you soon.

Here: 85 F, pitch black at 2:50 pm and raining like HELL. You know it's going to be a bad day when it rains sideways.

I have never heard of such a thing before. Is it intended to warn the citizenry of approaching weather that may be damaging or life-threatening?

I guess it doesn't work that well if people don't know what the sounds are supposed to be warning them of, though.

It's a remnant of old air raid sirens. Since there is little chance of that happening today, they'd decided to make use of the system to warn people of impending severe weather. Most of them sound like your classic invasion siren, but this one was new; something I'd never heard before.

I'm sure (they probably) let the local residents that would be affected by that particular siren that the sound was changing. As I said, it was off in the distance.

It’s heavy rain with hail stone. Sky is clear blue though. It’ll pass in a minute.

Well, I was thinking off cutting the grass as when you posted, the weather here was fine. Before I started, the hail stone and rain started here:D

ooff, done with the storm clean up (if I am not mistaken it were the leftovers of hurricane Florence that passed us on Sunday and Monday with wind speeds around 100 mph / 160 kmh). No big damage at my parents', though, only a few broken branches and tons of fruit littering the garden.
I was very surprised at the temperature of the wind: it was tropical. 32°C our thermometer claimed. The dog found the storm rather eerie and refused to go out. A dog's bladder seems to be a good deal larger than a human's.. ;)

Today is cold but sunny - a typical Indian Summer day. It's lovely in sheltered spots but the wind is icy. A good laundry day, though :)

sunny but awfully cold. Temperatures last night were only a few degrees above freezing point. The wind seems to come directly from Siberia.
Don't get me wrong - I love autumn. But it'd be really nice if it wouldn't always come so abruptly. Until about 20 years ago there used to be a gradual shift from summer to autumn so that one could get used to the lower temperatures. Nowadays it's 30°C one day and 10°C the next.

53°F and mostly cloudy.

Would be better if there was a breeze, but otherwise can't complain. At least it didn't rain all day today like they said it would.
