There was the strangest weather siren off in the distance that I've ever heard. A slow-rising, repeating digital tone. Nothing like the ear-blasting horns I normally hear.

Oh, my solar-powered security lights just came on. It's 2 in the afternoon.

Today and yesterday, we have had rain and wind, intermittently. A few blown over wagons on the motorway, downed wires on the railway. That sort of thing.

I have never heard of such a thing before. Is it intended to warn the citizenry of approaching weather that may be damaging or life-threatening?

I guess it doesn't work that well if people don't know what the sounds are supposed to be warning them of, though.

We were without power last night for about six hours or so after high winds and a ton of lightning. Not fun.

I read about that on cbc.ca. How devastating. My thoughts are with all the affected people in the region.
