what's your local weather?

I was woken up during the early hours by the sound of rain. It seems that we received 25mm in the last few hours which is at least 5 x the amount we have had between Christmas and yesterday. I hope that this rain fell far enough south to help put out the fires. Nearly 200,000 hectares have burned in the last few weeks.

^Yikes.

We have the opposite problem--it's a giant farm/marshland area that's flat as a pancake and has been covered in concrete. It's incredibly humid. We get about 50 inches (127 cm) of rain a year, on average. Flooding is a constant concern. BUT, Texas being what it is, if you drive 3 hours west, they've been in drought for about 10 years and worry about fires all the time.

It's about 80 F today--very cloudy but very warm.

We got flooding in May last year when three months worth of rain fell in one night. However this sort of flooding in Hobart comes from flooding rivulets not from the river Derwent so it is localised flash flooding.

Cold and soon to be snowy. And a state of emergency has been declared ahead of the next storm, which can be best described like this...

ETA: Since I just saw the potential totals when I'm getting off work tomorrow...

Better batten down the hatches.

Here it is cold, wet and windy. My thumbs went numb in the brief exposure while dropping the kids at school. Nothing a hot coffee by the heater can’t fix.

We had freezing rain yesterday, coupled with strong wind at night. Today everything was so slippery. We've had trouble getting up our own driveway.

Very very windy.

ETA: lots of fence panels, bins, and bits of tree strewn across the roads.
