What's your biggest regret?

I still think of them sometimes, when the weather's cloudy, the sun is low in the sky and the leaves begin to turn... ah, such sweet sorrow...

I regret not thanking Holdfast for not buying that pair of forest-green shoes.

They look marvelous on my feet.

You put ice skating blades on them, didn't you?

Are you kidding? You know they don't have the ankle support for that.

As the title asks, what's your biggest regret?

Mine is having screwed up a budding relationship I had with a woman several years ago. We kept in touch sporadically since then. She stayed single. I moved on -- for the most part. Nowadays we don't talk at all, but she's still on my mind. I feel like Walter Mitty, always lost in my thoughts, while my wife struggles to keep me grounded in reality.

So what's your sad story?

Read the short stories, "Forty, Counting Down" and "Twenty-One, Counting Up" by Harry Turtledove, in the "Counting Up, Counting Down" anthology of short stories...I think you'll appreciate it.
