What's with all theses 'demands' about the new show?

In all fairness it's not happening all that much here. I'm talking about things like this....

and this...

http://io9.com/7-things-we-want-in-the-new-star-trek-tv-show-1740580586

That is not counting all the tumblr posts about how it MUST have a trisexual physically challenged alien of color for a Captain.

I will never understand the sense of ownership that some fans have over someone else's intellectual property.

Where does that come from?

It's a two way relationship, you give us what we want and we support you even when you offer a subpar product.

Are those "10 things..." lists made by fans? Or by fans in their free time? They look like a cheap attempt to get some hits/clicks, nothing more.

Probably a bit unfair to label the second one a 'demand'. It's a bit pushy, but it does just say that it's a 'want' list.

Some of the writers for io9 were fans, weren't they?

A delusional sense of entitlement and an addict's mentality.

in 24 months your gonna be scratching your head why no one watched this series.

Your gonna have a pile of excuses, for why shows like the expanse will be destroying it.

Oh - and it's "you're" rather than "your."

Ok. I'll grant that the second list is more wishful thinking than demands.

It's not just demands, I don't get all the negativity surrounding something we know next to nothing about. We know it will launch in January 2017, we know Alex Kurtzman is the executive producer and we know it will on CBS All Access and not traditional TV.

This reminds me of when TNG was announced. I was in my late teens and I remember going to a convention a couple months before TNG premiered and people were like: "It'll never work...no Kirk and Spock...etc etc."

Ok so people don't like Kurtzman because they don't like the JJ-Verse ok BUT most Executive Producers actually have very little to do with the creative running of the show. I know Trek fans are use to Berman's ruling with a bit of a iron fist but that's really the exception to the rule. Usually the EP creates the concept for the show, might write the pilot and then leaves the work to the writers they hire. Added to that, there's still the legit question if CBS Television actually has the rights to set the show in the JJ-verse.

Ok so the show is going to be on All Access, I get that this is clearly a move by CBS to get people to pay for their streaming service ... so what? I'm sorry but digital streaming is the future of TV. Traditional TV is (slowly) going the way of the dinosaur. To me $5.99 for a new Trek show is fine by me. A year's subscription is just a little bit more than the admission to one movie frankly. Will All Access be successful, who knows. The streaming market is getting crowded but than again people were saying the same thing about cable a few years back.

I'm keeping an open mind.

:techman:

DS9 would never work because its not on a starship etc etc....

How many shows did JJ Abrams develop and then leave to other creative teams? I know LOST was one. The name on the brand doesn't mean they stamp their creative ideas all over it.

And people seem to forget that Kurtzman has done some good things on TV. I'm thinking Fringe here.

lol I had a similar experience. My very first Trek convention ever was right around the time that discussion of DS9 was just starting, and everybody was scoffing at the notion that they'd do a non-Enterprise based series on a space station.

Nichelle Nichols was one of the guests and I remember during the Q&A somebody asked her what her thoughts on DS9 were. She got this confused look and said "What the heck is that? Ever since I got here I've been hearing people mention this 'Deep Space 9' but I have no idea what that is!"

DS9 still doesn't get the respect is deserves to this day, although some people I know who were hardened haters of DS9 back in the day have finally come around thanks to Netflix and a desire to see 'new' Trek.

I just don't get why people are having breakdowns over this since we know nothing. I'm just excited that Star Trek is returning to the format that serves it best (episodic television) and the the limited information in the press release seem to indicate a return to telling stories that deal with contemporary issues.

From my small ramblings online I'm seeing that sort of thing happen with both DS9 and Voyager. Fine with me because they are both my favorite shows.

I understand people wanting to see certain things represented on the show but the fact is they can't represent everybody or experiment with every scenario. Someone or something is going to be left out.

All of us are going to watch every single episode, even you. We may do nothing but complain about it, but we're all going to watch it.

Kinda reminds me of the philosophers who approach Deep Thought on the old "Hitchhikers" TV show. "WE DEMAND.....!!..
