What's up with the Tardis interior during the Invasion of Time?

So? Who's to say the interior of the TARDIS (or any ship for that matter) has to look a certain, alien or not. I think it's pretty cool that the interior had a wide variety of decor, ranging from a loading dock and swimming pool to white panels with roundels to a courtyard with vegetation. And so on.

Although, when they were stuck because the Sonatarans held the primary control room, I did wonder what the protocol was with the secondary control room and it's Edwardian wood panelling having access tot he same doorway to the outside?

Didn't the Doctor say that the TARDIS interior was potentially infinitely big? If so, then the amount of different architecture styles inside the TARDIS could be enormous, IMO.

There's probably some parts of the TARDIS interior that may be made completely out of straw, who knows?

I think we're almost guaranteed a TARDIS "bottle" show in the new series, we know that the new Control room will be a bit more extensive than the old one. The TARDIS was regularly shown to have multiple rooms in the original series, from "The Invasion of Time" to "Logopolis" where we saw many different rooms.

If he was able to convert 25 percent of the Tardis into fuel to escape event one during Castravolva, then there are limits to the size of the Tardis, even if he choses not to maximise those limits at any given time.

Didn't the Doctor say that the TARDIS interior was potentially infinitely big? If so, then the amount of different architecture styles inside the TARDIS could be enormous, IMO.

There's probably some parts of the TARDIS interior that may be made completely out of straw, who knows?

In my world, where I am God...(Because I possess the Key to Time...I can do anything!), there would be a scene in a TARDIS bottle show in which the Doctor & his companion cross a bridge deep in the TARDIS (sorta like the one they crossed on their way to the Great Machine on Epsilon 9 in B5), that goes like this...

While crossing bridge...

Amy: Doctor, just how big is the TARDIS?
Doctor: There are no measurements in infinity?
Amy: That didn't answer my question.
Doctor: Okay, well, watch this....
The Doctor takes the sonic...smiles, drops it over the edge of the abyss.
Amy: What'd you do that for?
Doctor: Sssh...counts...4-3-2-1-puts his hand out...
The sonic drops into his hand from above.

Hah! I like it, However, after he drops the Sonic over the edge and Amy asks him why, he shrugs and says, "well, uh, you see to understand... huh, well, off we go then!" Then I'd probably have them cross the bridge and do what it was they were going to do and then while (most likely running) recrossing the bridge, the Doctor suddenly stops, says, "Oh! right." and reaches out as the Sonic plops back into his hand, "You see? Simple really..."

Yeah it's finite. Very very large, but finite. Chris Bidmead says as much in the commentary to Logopolis

Having a ship thats infinite would be pretty pointless though wouldn't it?

I always imagined it as being at most, Enterprise (TOS) sized inside.

As for the brick interior, maybe its the remains of an old 'desktop theme'. The Doctor was playing around interior to turn it into something more cozy, got interrupted partway through and never got back to it (Kinda like what I'd do back when I played The Sims 2) . Would explain the interiors in the tv movie as well.

And thinking about the whole 'Tardis requires 6 pilots' is another reason one wonder why he never just stuck with the 'Auxilliary control room'. That seemed like it could be handled by only 1-2 people.

Am I imagining scenes where K9 drove the TARDIS just by wedging his eye stalk up against the console?

K9 would often interface with the TARDIS via his Probe, and sometimes the Doctor would have him up on top of the console.

Re Peacemakers Scene above, that's awesome. Except that he should drop it at the start of the episode, and then catch it at the end

They've done one. It was called The Edge of Destruction and was a 2-parter that was made after the first Daleks story in early 1964. It has a claustrophobic, surreal feel that was never equalled and is actually one of my favoritie stories. Worth checking out.

As for The invasion of Time, there's been some teasing over the years about how the TARDIS deep interior looked like a combination of a factory and a public baths, but back in the 70s Tom Baker was pushing for the ultimate gag: he wanted a scene in which the Doctor said "Just a moment, let me get my boots from the boot cupboard. He'd open the door, walk into the closet, and the resulting scene would be shot at Westminster Abbey or some such place. Fortunately they didn't go quite that far in the series.

The comic strips for Doctor Who Magazine once postulated that the Doctor kept a zoo/menagerie of alien creatures in the TARDIS.

I think a bottle show giving the new viewers a real sense of how big the TARDIS really is would be great. But the story needs to be there. The Edge of Destruction worked really well over 2 episodes. But we've seen many poor bottle shows on series like Star Trek TNG over the years ... it's a real trick. That said, if anyone can pull off a bottle show, it's Moffatt.

The book to the Edge of Destruction exaggerates how far into, and how long they spend messing about in the TARDIS interior, from the amount of impact that book had against my youth's overall whotrivia I was amazed to recently find that the story was only a two parter.
