What's this old kids show I remember?

Fist McStrongpunch

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
So I used to watch this show at daycare back in the late 80s/early 90s, though I don't know when it was actually from. These are my memories of it, though I don't know how much is actually true. It was hosted by a man, possibly african-american, who had a magic red pen that he used to solve puzzles (I think it was mostly drawing lines between associated pictures and the like). And the pen was also a character, but the man didn't realize that his tiny pen-shaped friend was also his pen.

Anyone know what the heck I'm thinking of?

This thread reminded me of a show I have vague memories of but no idea what it was. It was about a girl I think, who was friends with a mannequin, maybe in a mall, who would wake up every night and they would have adventures. I have a memory of watching this in the mid 80s along with Gumby.

Thanks for posting that link, Moko... the clips in the sidebar meant I spent the past 20 minutes watching old clips of You Can't Do That On Television. :)

I remember this show, too. I cannot for the life of me remember what it was called, though. I think the mannequin's name was Jeff?

EDIT: Ahhh, and googline Jeff the Mannequin brings me to this: The show was called Today's Special

Thanks! The weird things we watch as a kid...

I remember Today's Special. The mannequin sort of resembled Barry Williams and Muffy (the puppet mouse) was a real asshole.

Wonderama doesn't ring a bell, but I certainly remember Zoom and the Electric Company. That latter series was the first time I saw Morgan Freeman. He often appeared dressed as Dracula. And of course there was Rita Morena who'd open the show with, "Hey, you guys!!!" loud enough to rattle the windows if the TV were set to a standard volume.

The Zoom episodes I most enjoyed was its occasional foray into amateur film making as done by kids. One segment was a kid's attempt at Logan's Run. I found it rather funny when a "runner" dashed by a "sandman" only to have the enforcer continue to sweep the area with his tracker as though the escapee never appeared!

Sincerely,

Bill
