What's the most overrated and annoying attraction where you live?

There's a place in Mitchell, SD that bills itself as "The World's Only Corn Palace!" It's a gymnasium with corncobs artfully hung on the outside. The locals call it "the world's biggest birdfeeder".

^ *I gotta say, I'd love to see the Corn Palace. I can't help it. I bow my head in sorrow and shame.

Anything to do with the Univeristy of Texas (namely their football team), and the Bob Bullock "Museum," which is actually an exhibit hall.

OK, UT can be annoying during home games, but it doesn't bother me since I'm an alumni and I'm biased towards them. Secondly, The Bullock doesn't qualify as overrated or annoying since A. everybody knows it's not very good, and B it doesn't draw a crowd and snarl traffic (which is how I'm defining annoying).

What is overrated and annoying is the Austin City Limits Music Festival. That traps me in my house all weekend and wrecks the grass in Zilker park

"My" Coke Museum is in Atlanta.

You know, I've always been curious as to what's IN the Coke museum. I mean, there's only so many bottles from different eras you can display. What else is in there?

I would suspect such a place to have a great collection of memorabilia, like old vending machines and dispensers and glasses and posters and clocks and pens and key-chains and whatnot...

I have a friend who's a collector of that stuff and probably would love to see the museum

And see...there you have it. Something for everyone. :techman:

One person's exciting day out is another's toss-up as to which would be worse....a root canal or a visit to that particular attraction.

But hey...I'll give you another Atlanta attraction that is WAAAAAYYYYY over-rated: The Big Chicken.

In Atlanta, is is nearly impossible to give directions without some inclusion of at least one (but quite possibly more) of the following:
a) at least one Waffle House,
b) the words "Peachtree" and/or "Roswell", or
c) The Big Chicken.

The thing is, however, that The Big Chicken (which by the way is about 1.5 miles from my house - right down ROSWELL ROAD past the WAFFLE HOUSE) isn't really that big.

You be the judge:

Tasty chicken though. :techman:

But the one tourist attraction that stands out to me are Pat's King of Steaks and Geno's across the street. They're OK cheesesteaks, although significantly overpriced. But they have blocks around the corner at all times of day (well, the smart lines are around the corner, they sometimes go into the street where they can get run over by people driving down Passyunk). Seriously overrated, even if they were important for the history of the cheesesteak. Almost every person from Philadelphia refuses to answer the question of which one is better.

I'm sorry, but it's hilarious to me that anybody even cares about "the history of the cheesesteak".

I also think Beale Street is a bit overrated. It's a lot of fun, but it's nothing more than a row of bars. I like going there sometimes, but I see people who travel hours to hang out there, and it's just not worth all that fuss.

I'm a Memphis native too, but even more overrated than Beale is Graceland!

The city I lived in until recently thinks it is an attraction in and of itself, which often got in the way of the actual mechanics of being a city.

That was pretty annoying!

The Mall of America. Seriously, it's just a mall with a whole lot of the same stores you can visit anywhere else...

... well, the rollercoaster is fun and Nordstrom's shoe department is always worth a trip plus the Bloody Marys at the Twin Cities Grill after a grueling shoe-shopping session are always tasty.

Other than that there's nothing to see there so stop taking all the parking spots!

McDonald's.

I always see people hanging out there and one near me even has a live band tuesday mornings for senior citizens!? The food isn't even that great and the employees look angry all the time. For the life of me why do HS kids think it is so cool to hang out in a McDonald's parking lot??? Even when I was in school kids would hang out there.

Why!?

for us it was a below-average diner/coffe shop. mostly because of its location as the relative geographic center of both where we MIGHT end up, and of where we all lived.

I don't get this trend of hanging out in parking lots at all. In my home town it was the Baskin Robbins and Burger King parking lots...no one even actually went inside and got food, they just sat outside in their truck beds with the rap music blasting. WTF?? How is that in any way fun??

Maybe I can tempt you with some nice home-cooked pizza and Italian fresh cheese? ;)

Now you're talking my language... Mediterranean food - yum! You hang out with the dry, dusty relics, and I'll raid your fridge and eat you out of house and home. :techman: It's a tough job, but someone's gotta' do it.

CONNOR PRAIRIE it is billed as the living history museum .Totallly boring and overrated.

Aw, I love Conner Prairie! Well, so long as I don't have to go there when it's hot and muggy.

Pretty much the entire city imo.

Are you talking about Vienna? If so, I was there for two days about a year ago on a Europe trip and I quite liked Schonbrunn Palace. However, I can't remember what I did the other day I was there, so maybe you have a point.
