What's the difference?

I ordered the Interplay Gamefest of Trek Classics. It includes the below games:

Star Trek - Starfleet Command
Star Trek - Starfleet Academy
Star Trek - New Worlds
Star Trek - Starfleet Academy - Strategic Command

What's the difference between Starfleet Academy and Starfleet Academy - Strategic Command?

Starfleet Command is a computer version of the old Star Fleet Battles board game (well, similar at least).

Starfleet Academy is a starship combat sim/role-playing cutscene adventure.

New Worlds is, I believe, a RTS game.

And I think Strategic Command is an expansion pack for Starfleet Academy, but I may be wrong on that one.

What is this "Interplay Gamefest of Trek Classics" you speak of?
A CD-ROM set? For PC or console? Where'd ya get it? Never heard of it.
Sounds good.

Bah, if they re-released 25th Anniversary and Judgment Rites, they could call the set "classics". Any set with New Worlds cannot fairly use the term.

Starfleet Academy: Strategic Command is the original Starfleet Academy while the game you're referring to as just regular Starfleet Academy is actually Chekov's Lost Missions, an expansion pack to the original. I think someone made a booboo on the listing. Anyway, I quite enjoyed Starfleet Academy a decade ago (keep in mind I was 10 at the time). I think you're in for a treat, Anthony.

Gah! New Worlds was unplayable. What a waste of my time! I could never beat the second or third federation mission - the stupid transport thing never took over the alien building or something like that. And to top it all off, I had no idea what anything did - I read the manual, too!

I'm shuddering remembering the New Worlds game - pile of pants! And that was after a VERY good looking demo video too. :(

A little bit i trivia concerning New Worlds...the game was totally unplayable on Windows 98/ME due to bugs that made the game crash at random intervals, and seeing as there was no in level game save, and each level could take hours to complete it was unplayable.....But with XP the random bug crash has disappeared totally and the game has become very stable, now you only need to lock yourself away in a dark room for 3 years to complete the game.

The last time i played this i actually got up to the 5 completed levels.......i had to stop though due to a intervention by my family and friends.

Oh well back to Star trek Pinball.....:scream:

I remember seeing New Worlds on a video whilst i was installed Klingon Academy, i remember thinking "nah, it'll never be as good as CnC"

Starfleet Academy Strategic Command is a demo of Starfleet Academy. I believe they were trying to save money or something with cds as the real Starfleet Academy is someting like 4 discs while this version only has 2.

Did that video also have a preview of Secret of Vulcan Fury? I know one of the Trek games did.

It's a shame that New Worlds was made and that wasn't. I barely made it through the tutorials, then uninstalled it after about five minutes with the first mission.
