What's the best and worst episode of TNG.

issreliant

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
TNG has had its share of good and bad episodes but what do you think is the best and worst?

Hehe it only took one poster to post one of my favorite episodes as their worst. Record time!:bolian:

Ask me next week and I'd likely give different answers, but:

Best: Parallels

Worst: Emergence

I don't feel like picking up a worst, but I can go with a favourite: The measure of a man, that admirable, fantastic episode.

Best - Best of Both Worlds pt. 1, although there are a ton of episodes just as good.

Worst - Sub Rosa

Count me in as another who likes The Royale. :techman:

My favorite: There are two actually, "The Inner Light" and "Best of Both Worlds pt. 2"

Absolute worst: Shades of Gray

Best: The Defector
Worst: Justice (they had the perfect chance to kill off Wesley and for some reason passed - that and it's a typical first season episode, i.e. stupid)

My favorite: There are two actually, "The Shining Light" and "Best of Both Worlds pt. 2"

Absolute worst: Shades of Gray

If it's your best episode, you should probably get the title right- "The Inner Light." :)

Best - I'll go with BoBW
Worst - Nobody's picked it so far - Code of Honor

best: "Tapestry" -- might be my favorite hour in all of Trek

worst: "Shades of Gray" -- deserves to be mentioned (edit: oops, it already has been mentioned! let's hear it for the clip show!)

BEST: Chains of command parts 1 and 2 (i count them as one episode)

WORST: I have to agree "Masks" is by far the worst episode of TNG, and Trek altogether.

Best - The Drumhead - Soooo powerful.

Worst - Up the Long Ladder - This really appalled me with the calm, unconflicted way Pulaski and Riker killed their clones and the obscene depiction of the 'Irish'.

Best: The Best of Both Worlds (sort of a standard answer, but it still deserves the honour)
Runners-up: The Defector, Data's Day, Conundrum, The Lower Decks

Worst: Sub Rosa (bad idea on many, many levels; I chose it because it's a standout bad episode after the period when the show had really gotten good)
Runners-up: Justice, Up the Long Ladder, Shades of Grey, Man of the People

Best: "The Wounded"
Runners Up: "The Defector" "Chain Of Command"

Worst: "Shades Of Gray"
Runners Up: "Imaginary Friend" "The Royal"

The Royale was so bad that the original story writer, Tracy Torme, tried desperately to get the studio to approve the use of a pseudonym, because he was so appalled by Marurice Hurley's rewrites (source: ST: TNG Companion). Apparently he "completely disowned the piece." (ibid).

But however bad The Royale was, Up the Long Ladder was much, much, worse.

As for what constitutes the best episode (as distinct from my "favourite"), I agree with Mojochi and issreliant. Chain of Command 1&2 works so well on every level (eg. story, script, acting, directing, etc), that it's just got to rank up there at the top.
