What's the best action sequence in the reboot films?

Smellmet

I'm just watching star trek beyond. I think the enterprise attack and crash is the best action sequence in the reboot movies. The bit where Kirk ejects and you see his reflection actually almost moves me to tears, the effects and score are just amazing here. So my question is a simple one: what is your favourite action scene in these films?

1. Enterprise drops out of warp and attacks the Narada (star trek 2009)

2. Enterprise breaks apart , half destroyed and crashing to Altamid (Star Trek Beyond)

3. Enterprise catches fire and start to crash to earth (star trek into darkness)

4. Narada attacks and destroys the USS Kelvin (star trek 2009)

5. Everything thing that happened in the battle for earth (star trek 2009)

Honourable Mentions

Spock beats up Kirk

Sulu sword fencing with Romulans

Gravity Fight at York Town (Kirk vs Edison)

Beyond - the epic finale of Kirk Prime on the bridge of the evaced Enterprise sitting in the chair for the last time after setting the self destruct, a final Shatnerian look at the bridge as the countdown begins..then full impulse power firing all phasers into the heart of the Klingon fleet before going kaplowy .. buying Kirk&Spock in the shuttlecraft the time to make it into the wormhole to restore the timeline (all to the powerful moving orchestral choir score)

oh wait that was Orcis Beyond.. sorry!

There's just no question the Kronos Klingon scene from the sky chase to the "capture" of Khan was the best single action scene in all of Trek history. The Mutara Nebula battle from STII to me still ranks as the best space battle.

Honorable mention goes to:
A) The opening chase in STID on Nibiru
B) The Krall swarm attack on the Enterprise in Beyond
C) Spock chasing Khan on Earth, STID. Seamlessly real FX

That's it. Close the thread. @RAMA has spoken!!!

I think the Klingon sequence in ST ID is the best, with a lot of different elements that make it interesting to watch and rewatch. The Kelvin battle might edge it out because it has a far more emotional impact on me than most other sequences in Star Trek.

I thought the Klingon stuff was hampered by Kronos' surface being very soundstage-y. It really didn't feel like they were outdoors and that took away from it for me.

I've seen scenes in action movies that left viewers breathless before..I'd never seen a Trek action sequence that did the same till the Kronos sequence.

Far from seeming like it was on a soundstage, it felt very concrete and real as well as kinetic. The 3D nature of the ground battle is what I would have liked to have seen with Starship Troopers in that awful 1997 movie, where troops operate as if it was WWI.

Yep. Very much a green screen feel to all the live action elements on the Klingon homeworld.

The two opening sequences of ST09 and STID were the two best, in that order.

Even though BEY is my favorite film, and I liked that opening sequence as well, those two opening scenes were flawless sci-fi adventure movie action scenes...and they both just happened to be intros.

I didn't get that feel, even after watching the BTS footage, which usually spoils the "puppet strings" as it were for me. However, it's much more "real" than the ending sequence between Khan and Spock on the flying lift.

Mileage will vary, clearly, but the way the scene builds up in to the inevitable conflict, from Uhura's attempt to negotiate, to Khan's shootout, it all paces incredibly well.

Yeah I kind of got that vibe from that bit, but...

...it really was a well directed sequence, despite my minor quibbles about the surroundings, I love the bit where the ship crashes then another one appears and you see the soldiers rappelling out of it. Dizzying camerawork that was just on the right side of chaotic. Worked best on the big screen, as these things tend to.

Was a draft or synopsis of previous story ideas every leaked?

Orci on twitter gave some details:
Chase for doohickey against Annunaki to reset back to prime timeline. Theme: The Last temptation of Kirk And Spock

It's the temptation. Restore Vulcan, Kirks Father, and Spock's mother? Or play the hand they are dealt?

Only with help of Prime Kirk, who they meet on the adventure, can they solve the dilemma

Love both. Got to give the nod to 09 though. The whole 'starship underwater' bit was a bit too ridiculous for my liking, and was clearly put there at the expense of good storytelling for me. I still enjoy it if I turn my brain off a bit though.

The Beyond opener is a lot different, it's played nearly entirely for laughs, and succeeds at this aspect, I thought it was very funny and clever when I first saw it, but it really, really bugs me that it didn't go to the title card like the other two. It had the perfect moment to do so as well, when the camera pans into the computer display showing the artefact, right before the warp scene. I found it very distracting at the cinema on first viewing, like I was waiting for it to happen and it never came.

The opening to 09, for sure. It does everything in those first eight or nine minutes that the reboot film needed to do. Reestablish the Star Trek universe, the look, the music, and the narrative conceit. Tahir and Hemsworth both give great performances and just... Wow. It hits ya right in the ticker seeing Winona with baby Jim and you know his life has been forever changed, and not for the better. At least that was my reaction to it.

It also remains the best space battle in the three films so far, which is a shame. The warp chase in STID, while more visceral, was just too short for me to be considered, otherwise it would be right up there.
