What's the appeal of those 'line by line' threads ?

(This isn't a question about Trek in general, but more about this forum. So if this thread is misplaced and should be in 'questions, suggestions & Feedback', my apologies in advance.)

I tend to see those 'line-by-line of episode <x>' topics with some regularity. All that happens there (as far as I can tell) is exactly what the thread title promises. And I was wondering why those threads are there. Is it merely for upping post-counts ? Or do people actually have fun in participating in those threads ? If so, could someone explain to me what the fun is about ?

Please understand that I don't have anything against those threads, I just don't understand the appeal of them and would like to know what it is.

I never understood them either, since it's easy to "cheat" just by looking up the transcripts.

It is a bit of fun, but the point of them are undoubtedly is an easy way to boost post counts.

I never understood what they are all about, either. Looks just like spam to me.

I hate any kind of "forum game" threads. They take away from the discussion and distract from other threads. Drives me nuts.

That said, it's FAR better there than other Trek discussion sites I've been on.

could someone explain to me what the fun is about ?

You can restart this in Miscellaneous if you really want to, but asking to have fun explained to you is not a promising beginning, IMHO.
