I've loved the original
Star Trek for 40 years. For me, no other series or movie has come close. However, I've eagerly watched each new series' premiere and each movie, with the hope (but little expectation) it would be as good. In the same way, I'm looking forward to the new film. Will it be as good as
TOS? Who knows? But I'm a
Trekkie, and nothing will keep me from seeing it when it opens here in Japan (at the end of May).
What if I see it and don't like it? Big deal! I can spare a few bucks and a few hours out of my life. (Hell, my wife dragged me to see
Beverly Hills Chihuahua, and I survived that.) Seeing it and not liking it is not going to shorten my life or decrease my affection for
TOS in any way. In fact, if I see it and don't like it, I can act all superior and be even more smug in my continuing deep appreciation of
TOS, but in an informed way. If I like the new movie, then it's good for me too. Win-Win.
And if some people are overly enthusiastic about the new movie and rub me the wrong way? Again, big deal! Some of you TOS fans already annoy the hell out of me!!!
