Whatever happend to Majels Computer Voice Library...

If I remember correctly Majel recorded a whole library of "Computer Voice" shortly before she died. Nothing of that has seen the light of day, seems the producers just forgot about it or decided not to use it for some reason? It´s a pitty. Maybe in Picard?

Kurtzman probably doesn’t know about it. :)
I looked it up and according to Rod Roddenberry, she did record it phonetically so she could say every word. Perhaps the technology to recreate the words isn’t there yet.

Hiring someone else to record lines is probably way easier and sounds more natural than cobbling words and sentences together from whatever Majel recorded.
Recording every possible sound is doable but you can't just string them together into words and sentences without it sounding awkward. What about stressed syllables or putting emphasis on certain words? It would sound like Siri at best and that's not good enough.

She had a great voice, and it really feels like Star Trek when they use her vocals. It's a shame they haven't tried to find someone that can do the voice.

A Siri-type Majel voice would've been a good fit for Discovery. And Picard isn't centered on Starfleet, so they could get away with using Rios's voice or something.

But, alas, it was not meant to be. Perhaps AI technology will advance to make the voice natural enough for them with the files they have on hand.
