What you did or didn't like about INS....

I knew quite a few trek fans didn't like this movie, because it had nothing to do with the Dominion War. The war was still going on. I can understand why money wise have all the main characters from DS9 and TNG on the sets. It would also be a very long movie. They would have to cut everything out like they did to Das Boot and The Admiral.

Liked

-Character moments like the rapport Geordi and Riker have, or Deanna's "Not that we care about such things". There were actually a bunch of genuinely fun interactions with the regulars.

-The music is excellent as per Goldsmith's usual

-Hot Trill bridge officer

-NEVER SHALL BOW DOWN TO A DOMINEERING FROWN OR A DICTA-TOR-IAL WOOOOORD. I seriously hated that sequence at first, but now it's one of my favorite TNG movie sequences

Dislikes:

-The Baku. Arrogant, selfish assholes who deserve a boot to the head more than anything.

-The complete lack of subtlety of any kind

-The general idiocy of the Federation with this whole plan

-Picard's annoying self-righteousness (which goes against his character)

-It feels like a shitty 2-part episode. If it felt like even a mediocre 2-part ep I could live with, but this is like an episode that was too poorly-conceived to make it on the show and they put it on the big screen for some godforsaken reason.

-Anij. God, it was like someone won a contest over who could write the most bland and uninteresting romance of the week, which are already forgettable at best.

-"Comedy" such as Data asking worf about boobs or the horrendous flotation device line.

Don't like to be so critical but....this might be my least favorite movie of the entire franchise. I actually like NEM more than this one...and would much rather sit down and watch TFF

To echo what's been said....just an incredibly small movie. About halfway through I remember thinking, "why did they even make this?" The outcome just seemed completely irrelevant.

And this is where Action Picard really turned a bad corner....this movie set the stage for some of the more ludicrous scenes in NEM. Still disappointed to really think too much about it.....

This movie is almost as bad and The Motion Picture, or Voyage Home.

It's long, it's excruciatingly long, feels like a terribly boring two-part episode (i.e Basics, anyone?), has WAY too many flawed attempts of humor, no character is mildly interesting and the acting, even from the main cast, was pretty meh. But I guess that's because the plot was just as meh.

I liked HMS Pinafore.

Likes:
1.) The bits of comedy. Boobs, Worf: "IT IS A GORCH"/"Straighten your baldric, Mr. Worf", "Smooth as a baby's bottom, eh Data?", TNG Sing-a-long: "Do you know Gilbert & Sullivan?", "I have not had a chance to meet all of the new crew members since I have been back", Picard's "No, no, no. Something Latin".
2.) Picard rebelling. Good stuff. Although I agree with someone above who said that the cause didn't justify his insubordination.
3.) The concept of the Ba'ku.

Dislikes:
1.) The Ba'ku themselves. And really, the Son'a as well. Kind of douchebags. And not really good villains. F. Murray Abraham for the win though.
2.) Data's shitty lines/actions. The floating gag, "Saddle up. Lock and load". Makes me wish he died in this movie instead.

Likes:

1. We took our then 3 month old daughter to the theatre when we first saw the film and she slept through it!

2. Riker and Troi finally get back together, for good!

3. The humor (ducks). It was a nice change from the heavy stuff in Generations and First Contact

Dislikes:

1. New movie, new babe for Picard. What about Crusher?

2. Neither side in the civil war is all that likable

3. It plays like a two parter of the TV series, but I guess that's not necessarily terrible.

I have weird taste. For the Mrs., the kids and myself, this is probably the TNG theatrical movie we enjoy the most, not that that's saying a lot as none of them are all that great.

LIKES:

-Jerry Goldsmith's score is quite beautiful at times and hopefully one of the specialty labels will release an expanded version (like FSM did with Trek II)
-Jonathan Frakes proves to be a capable director (he may not be Nick Meyer when it comes to storytelling and dramatic arcs but he knows the cast and how to make a shot look good)
-the opening with Data run amuck, cloaking suits, etc.
-the kid who played Artim was, surprisingly, not annoying (he could've made a decent Anakin Skywalker)
-Ensign Perim... too bad they didn't bring her back for Nemesis where they could've ejected her out of the ship during the finale :)
-the mystery aspect of the story, though this only lasts through the first act
-the Briar Patch imagery
-the rekindling of the Riker/Troi romance
-Anthony Zerbe as Admiral Dougherty... when I read the DS9 relaunch novels, I picture him as Cmdr. Vaughn
-the Enterprise looks good, inside and out... cool Okudagrams in the turbolift, too

DISLIKES:

-the relocation via holodeck idea had been done just a few years before on TNG
-I like the idea of a manual steering column but the execution is subpar (I don't hate it like others do)
-Data's "Saddle up, lock and load" line
-the crew's civilian attire... First Contact did it much better (I know... different time periods)
-most (but not all) of the attempts at humor, especially the "flotation device" gag and the "boobs" line
-a waste of F. Murray Abraham and Gregg Henry
-the alien race of attractive white people (if they looked like the bad guys, would we have sympathy for them?)
-this movie is one of the only times where I disagree with the crew's actions
-a few of the visual effects shots (especially an aerial shot of the flying drones)
-once again, we don't get to see the ejection of the warp core
-the scene where Geordi sees the sunrise could've been epic, but instead it is merely okay
-the lack of explanation for Worf's appearance

It takes place right dab in the middle of the Dominion War, and the flagship of the Federation is out there doing 'nothing'. I know the reasons for this (movies vs tv show) but, come on, they could have come up with a better plot to begin with since they knew the war was going with DS9...
