What would be some good quotes for a starship dedication plaque?

"Good enough never is."

IIRC that was on the dedication plaque for the USS Benjamin Franklin in a ST:TNG: Starfleet Academy book. I've always loved that one and I use it when I can.

"Considerate la vostra semenza:
Fatti non foste a viver come bruti,
Ma per seguir virtute e canoscenza."

Dante - Divina Commedia, Canto XXVI, vv. 118-120

In my fan fic "The Hansen Diaries", I have the USS Raven's motto as "Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before."

That is fantastic! As a fan of Poe here, I think that a good portion of his writing is very thought provoking and imaginative, despite some people thinking of him as only a writer of disturbing and dark stories.

Thanks! I also thought it was very apt regarding their mission to seek out and learn about the Borg.

(BTW, even though we see the dedication plaque in Voyager, we never get a good enough look to see what the motto actually is. We just see a line of text that is illegible. It's probably just, "Quoth the raven, "Nevermore.")

I noticed an old thread for some really nice-looking fan-made plaques. Are people still doing that?

Oh, and here's another good one:

"The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled."
-Plutarch

I had a plaque printed out on glossy photo paper and farmed it in my last apartment. The quote was from Capt. Rex Kramer: Do you know what it's like to fall in the mud and get kicked... in the head... with an iron boot? Of course you don't, no one does. It never happens. Sorry, Ted, that's a dumb question... skip that."

The ship in my show is named the Earhart. The quote I'm using is:

“Never interrupt someone doing something you said couldn't be done.”

--Amelia Earhart

We could toss in the "Tears in Rain" soliloquy from Blade Runner

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die."

Well, maybe take off the "time to die" part.

Here's some more I found:

"Science does not know its debt to imagination."

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Men love to wonder, and that is the seed of science."

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.”

-André Gide

“Sailors on a becalmed sea, we sense the stirring of a breeze.”

-Carl Sagan

“The perfect journey is never finished, the goal is always just across the next river, round the shoulder of the next mountain. There is always one more track to follow, one more mirage to explore.”

― Rosita Forbes (a bit long, but I like it)

"Courage is not simply one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing point."

-C. S. Lewis

"Courage is the price that life exacts for granting peace."

-Amelia Earhart

(No more smart-ass ones, please?)

Here are a couple I like, too:
"Imagination - its limits are only of the mind itself." - Rod Serling
"All your dreams can come true if you have the courage to pursue them." - Walt Disney
"We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths." - Walt Disney
