What would Amelia have done to pull her weight if she'd tagged along?

Re: What would Amelia have done to pull her weight if she'd tagged alo

No they wouldn't! She would also make both of them look liked dumbasses. I bet she would get on well with Janeway. Pond has a scientific mind. Janeway would listen to her a lot quicker than the Doctor tends to.

Re: What would Amelia have done to pull her weight if she'd tagged alo

Would have made Scorpion interesting:

Rory: I have a message from Captain Janeway and a question from me.

*Borg Fleet Explodes*

Re: What would Amelia have done to pull her weight if she'd tagged alo

Having Amy Pond on Voyager would have been awesome. Imagine if they picked up Amy Pond and Neelix instead of Kes, how much more super interesting would that be. I am NOT saying that Amy Pond would be in any kind of relationship with Neelix, she would just be stuck with him for whatever reason.

Instead of Kes the ever so sweet one we would have Amy Pond sparring with the Doctor. She wouldn't be trying to help him improve his understanding of non-holograms she would have been utterly withering in her commentary about his flaws.

Re: What would Amelia have done to pull her weight if she'd tagged alo

Can we swap her for Neelix instead?

Re: What would Amelia have done to pull her weight if she'd tagged alo

No. Don't you want to see Amy Pond roll her eyes at Neelix? It will be awesome!!

Re: What would Amelia have done to pull her weight if she'd tagged alo

I like Kes. One of my favorite Voyager characters. But I'd like to see Amy tearing Neelix or HoloDoc ("HA! You're not the Doctor! I've met the Doctor and you're no Space Gandalf!") apart and making Harry and Tom fall all over each other while telling Seven and Janeway to loosen up. So have her just show up one day all Q-like. Oh, imagine the fun she'd have with Q, soo much more energetic and lively than his actual appearances.

You know what is really annoying.. I had 4 friends IRL who were big Dr. Who fans and since they weren't fans of any other fantasy/sci fi stuff this was really cool. At last I could talk my genre in between hearing all about their home renovations and other boring crap. BUT! They have ALL stopped watching Dr. Who because they all HATE Amy Pond. They think she is dumb and shallow and silly. They have completely missed the whole point of her interesting introverted personality. Now I cannot even mention Dr. Who to them because they immediately start pissing all over Amy Pond.

This has upset me.

Two quick thoughts after stumbling into this thread:

I'm amazed that anyone educated in Western society hasn't heard of Amelia Earhart. Isn't basic 20th century taught anymore?

As for Amy Pond on Voyager... An ST/DW crossover would be horrid. Especially with Amy Pond. In my mind, she's tied with Rose and Martha in a three-way for horrid companions played by even worse actresses.

As for the actual topic, I'm sure someone with Earhart's abilities and (assumed) intelligence could catch up quickly enough to be useful on the ship.

You know it's completely doable, both franchises have alternate realities and universes and stuff already woven into them.

Shame. :(

Amy is wonderful! :techman:

Well if she was trying to cross the Atlantic, that just reinforces the shoddiness of her navigation!

Unlike Janeway, Amelia earhart was quite real, as were her accomplishments and her tragedies.

Fred Noonin was the navigator on her last ill fated flight.

A little respect goes a long ways.

Never heard of Earheart until I came to Voyager...

Seems to me that there's nothing wrong with a lighthearted remark that is provably false...

Oh and Yuri Gagarin was conspicuous by his absence from Janeway's list of who made contributions to Aviation...Voyager is hardly the place to talk about respect for historical figures!

As he was from Enterprise's opening, not to mention other Russian firsts. Sputnik, Valentina Tereshkova

Not dimenshing her accomplishments, but for more occured in the 20th Century to be taught. WWI, WWII, Cold War, Korean War, Vietnam War, Collapse of the USSR, Space Race, Falklands War, Gulf War, Nuclear weapons to name just a few, assination of JFK, Civil Rights Movement(US), Sufferage, First Femal Prime Minister(UK), Abdication of Edward VIII, End of the British Empire. To name just a few reasons why she might not have been covered/or covered only in passing.

You know that episode of I Love Lucy with the Cream Pies on the conveyor belt?

I can see harry digging a mass grave for the ships gel packs as B'Elanna tries to switch everything back to isolinear chips which they do have the resources to massfabricate.

Definitely best she didn't come with then!

Law & Order: SVU isn't immune either: in it, Alex Kingston has a recurring role as a defense attorney named...Miranda Pond. :)

I disagree. It would be stretching things way too far. Somehow the Federation has managed to overlook the Daleks, Cybermen, etc, etc. In the DW universe they've completely missed Starfleet's existence.

Crossovers like this need to stay in the realm of fanfic.

That's a rather Anglocentric list. Half that list is relevant only to the UK. But yeah, I can see how the Iron Lady's tyranny is more important than a pioneering female aviator. ;)

I'd rank Earhart as more historically and internationally noteworthy than the Falkland Islands, Edward VIII and the Gulf War. Makes me wonder if Canada simply has a more balanced approach to history than the US and UK. We probably do, being part of the British Commonwealth and sharing a border with the US.

Re: What would Amelia have done to pull her weight if she'd tagged alo

^Perhaps, but history lessons to focus on key events and unfortunantly somethings get missed or get a 2 minute mention. After all in the UK you only spend 3 years(at something like 1-2hrs/wk) being taught history (5 years if you take it as a GCSE). But with thousands of years of history to cover you can't cover everything.

Re: What would Amelia have done to pull her weight if she'd tagged alo

Amelia Earhart really isn't that important to overall 20th century history.

I do agree, it would be awful if they did do a Who/Trek crossover. It was bad enough that R2D2's "body" was floating in the debris field of ST:XI (to be fair Lucas did it first with the Enterprise so it was the return of a hat tip).

I'm just playing around with the idea of the amazing Amy Pond interacting with my favorite crew.
