What would Amelia have done to pull her weight if she'd tagged along?

Guy Gardener

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
Everyone has to pull their weight.

But she's 400 years behind the curve.

I suppose there's cleaning or killing, it it hadn't been established in Up The Long Ladder that Star Ships clean themselves, so she'd wind up in Security? help Kes in Aeroponics? Diplomacy/Morale with Neelix?

Maybe down the line, she'd go to school with Naomi getting a 24th century first grade education?

She wouldn't be a navigator that's for sure. She can't cross the atlantic without getting lost, let alone the Delta Quadrant...

Re: What would Amelia have done to pull her weight if she'd tagged alo

Well, 400 years behind the curve puts her ahead of Neelix, so maybe Janeway would have made her the ship's ambassador.

Re: What would Amelia have done to pull her weight if she'd tagged alo

400 years behind the curve technologically, not evolutionarily.

"Sheesh!"

Re: What would Amelia have done to pull her weight if she'd tagged alo

There would have been a Tom romance. She would have been dazzled by his boy wonder readiness to show her the tech and he would have been dazzled by her genuine vintage-ness.

I'm sure there are some easy jobs that don't require much knowledge about 24th century technology. It should be possible to teach her the necessary things for a specialized job in a few weeks.

Maybe have her help out in engineering, not everyone has to be able to repair every single thing on the ship or to calibrate the main deflector for regular coffee searches or stuff like that. She could be the gel pack checking officer who looks after them and administers prophylactic hyposprays in the contaminated areas if she discovers Neelix walking around the ship with suspicious food.
It's not that hard, look at the gel pack, if it looks sick or the tricorder beeps twice replace it, if it beeps once a hypospray could do the job, re-check the pack after 24 hours and replace it if the packs condition is getting worse.

You know that episode of I Love Lucy with the Cream Pies on the conveyor belt?

I can see harry digging a mass grave for the ships gel packs as B'Elanna tries to switch everything back to isolinear chips which they do have the resources to massfabricate.

It was the Pacific.

She'd have been Janeway's counselor/mentor/best bud.

Re: What would Amelia have done to pull her weight if she'd tagged alo

She could have been the field medic! Janeway likes assignin' that position to pilots...

Head up a ship's brothel. Save a load on holodeck power.

Well if she was trying to cross the Atlantic, that just reinforces the shoddiness of her navigation!

Unlike Janeway, Amelia earhart was quite real, as were her accomplishments and her tragedies.

Fred Noonin was the navigator on her last ill fated flight.

A little respect goes a long ways.

Never heard of Earheart until I came to Voyager...

Seems to me that there's nothing wrong with a lighthearted remark that is provably false...

Oh and Yuri Gagarin was conspicuous by his absence from Janeway's list of who made contributions to Aviation...Voyager is hardly the place to talk about respect for historical figures!

Didn't you see Close Encounters of the Third Kind?

Earheart's abduction by aliens is infamous!

Must have missed it! After I saw "The '37s" I started coming across references to her left, right and centre though!

Re: What would Amelia have done to pull her weight if she'd tagged alo

So, is it bad that I saw this thread from the main forum menu and thought the idea of Amy Pond on Voyager would be fantastic? :D

Re: What would Amelia have done to pull her weight if she'd tagged alo

I thought it was a DW thread until I saw the Forum!

Re: What would Amelia have done to pull her weight if she'd tagged alo

Can't you just imagine the sort of fun she'd bring to Voyager though?

Re: What would Amelia have done to pull her weight if she'd tagged alo

Amy Pond is my favorite companion of the NuWho.

Harry and Tom would be running along after her with their tongues hanging out!

Re: What would Amelia have done to pull her weight if she'd tagged alo

They wouldn't be able to keep up.
