What were the Borg afraid of?

Guy Gardener

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
The Queen and her entourage traveled 60 thousand light years to earth from Borg Space to be defeated by the federation in a fair fight, where upon they travel back in time through a magic door they can't close well enough that a gunship follows them and they have to cannibalize parts to make an interplexing beacon to forward a mass of fore knowledge to the Borg just setting up shop in the Delta Quadrant that ina newly created alternate present Borg space increases dramatically that previously in what was oging to be the future, Captain Chakotay flew from the Caretakers array to Krenim space without even noticing the distant hum of cubes on the periphery, to Captain Janeway running into a Borg bolthole stretching 5 thousand light years in every direction form it's centre where upon she takes on a Borg crewmen who is perfectly aware of the Queens fight with Picard in the middle of the 21st century proving that her existence and totality of her environment is the manufaction (this should be a word!) known temporal shenanigans and completely not the same timeline we had been viewing on TV before tail end of Voyager season three.

So here's my question.

Why didn't the Borg travel back in time while they were still in Borgspace and then trek on to a defenseless 21st century earth? Was there some obstacle in the past or the future that wasn't ther in the present?

...

Oh god.

It was all a trick.

The Queen just wanted a second date with Picard.

She lost on purpose and kept the magic door open on purpose so that Picard could follow, this shite is straight out of Gossip Girl... but it's hardly her fault that there was a more manly man that got her hackles up that she hadn't even considered smooching before?

How fricken fickle!

Your mother!

;)

If the Borg invaded where my mother lived, she'd pour the bugger two fingers of scotch and call him a sissy if he didn't knock it, and next 8, straight back.

...

I was thinking that there's someone protecting the space between Unimatrix One and earth that isn't there in the present, and entirely new problems if they decided to attack humanity in the future... Which if you think about it, is exactly where they would want to go if they intended on harvesting advanced technology?

I was also thinking that they may be afraid of themselves? Certainly the Borg in the Past would want to assimilate future Borg on their terms and not the terms of the future Borg considering it's so easy to be played that could be being shoveled an unfavorable destiny if they don't look a gift horse int he mouth.

O. And lets not forget the the krenim Empire, the ever changing temporally unstable krenim Empire is between UNimatrix one and earth and Anorax needs to control anything in his theatre which isn't temporally inert that a lot of time cubes probably got swotted.

Then there's Romulan space. Do you really want to fly a timeship anywhere near a flotillia of warbirds each powered by semistable spacetime singularities?

Other stuff.

The movie never happened, except in Picard's mind. See, Picard never left the Nexus. The Enterprise D crew died on Veridian III. All post Generations movies are Picard's fantasies. Borg queen? Baku babe who stops time? Battling his evil clone? REMANS?

Total fantasy.

They needed the energy from a cube's destruction to power the time travel device, and to the Borg, it seemed a more efficient use of resources to attack Earth. If they won, great. If not, the ship gets destroyed and provides the power. Win-win.
Anorax needs to control anything in his theatre which isn't temporally inert that a lot of time cubes probably got swotted.
Hmmm... Time Cube, you say? ;)

I'm with you on all parts except this. Because even though Picard couldn't leave, Kirk did leave the Nexus, took command of the Enterprise-D, kicked Soran and the Klingons' asses, and had a four-way with Crusher, Troi, and some alien chick they picked up on the way back to Starfleet Command. :techman:

I've not read any responses but I just wanted to answer the question directly.

In TNG, nothing scared the Borg.

In VOY, every spec of partical dust scared the Borg.

You're right it all went to hell with the queen. I really liked Alice Krige; I thought she was a marvellous character, but the queen turned the Borg from a remorseless, faceless entity into just another bunch of baddies to be whupped.

Haha yup. The Borg really began to lose their "Borginess" in VOY.

Why do you want to talk about how sore my daddy's ass is? That's just not cool.

I'm thinking that the short answer might be Q. In the original timeline prior to Q-Who (or some may argue The Neutral Zone) the Borg were unaware of humans. With Picard being involved with defeating the Borg in FC and skewing the timeline some, perhaps Q was the deterant. He did have a kind of master/pet relationship with Picard as well as an on going interest in humans in general. Just a thought.
