What was your favorite alien makeup in Trek?

In honor of Halloween...

Any Trek show or film. Regular characters, guest characters, or even background characters. Which makeup jobs really blew you away as the most creative and alien? Or seemed the most convincing and believable to you?

Feel free to post photos (no hotlinking, please).

Well it's not alien as such, but Data's makeup (apparently they considered making him bright pink though!) and worf's.

I thought the makeup for Weyoun was awesome. His character was that charming kind of villian who is very good at making himself likeable, so it was really fitting to give him those big blue eyes.

I think 7 of 9's jumpsuit was mostly makeup.

A very interesting question!

I find the Vulcan and Bajoran races to be very attractive, but I suppose there isn't that much make-up involved since the difference between them and humans is rather small.

For me, the Borg are winners in the alien/creative make-up department. Aside from the fact that Picard looked bitchin' as a Borg, the way they look makes them immediately frightening, at least to me. The unnatural fusing of biological tissue and mechanical parts is very effective in creating the image of a terrifying, invulnerable foe. It's actually what they represent that's scary: a perverted form of nature, whether it's Human, Vulcan, or any other race. You have a natural, born individual that's been made into something monstrous. And that idea is conveyed brilliantly by the Borg make-up.

^^ I agree, especially how they developed the Borg over time. The first couple of incarnations were a bit pedestrian, but later on they perfected the look. Very convincing. I never quite warmed up to the idea of a "Queen", as this is supposed to be a massive, faceless collective. It had a more menacing feeling without a single individual representing the whole hive.

Another I kind of liked was "Tosk"... that peculiar alien in DS9: "Captive Pursuit". Sure, there have been a number of reptilian based aliens, but there was something about his design that appealed to me. I really would have preferred this look for the Cardasians. Although the Cardassian look was matured into a more believable design from the first incarnation, I just found it a bit awkward looking. If you're going to go that far with large sinew shoulders, might as well just give them a tail. ;) At least they got rid of that facial hair seen in the first Cardassian encounter.

I, too liked Tosk, as well as the Hunters.

I thought Jem Hadar and the Cardassians looked fantastic, as well as the Hirogen.

One of things that I like best about the Vulcans is that their make-up in actually pretty minimum, their alien'ness comes mostly from the actors skill.

Cardassian ... If you're going to go that far with large sinew shoulders, might as well just give them a tail
Someone correct me, but I don't think that we ever saw a Cardassian with his shirt off. That would have been interesting to see the masive shoulders and chest. When it comes to elaborate make up the Cardassians are the best.

Yes, you're right. The Vulcans' alien character comes more from their attitude than from the make-up and that's actually pretty neat.

Um, I didn't write that. Gary Sever did. :)

I've always loved Doctor Jobril's makeup. The picture doesn't do it justice, but onscreen -- wow!

Outside of that, my favorite makeup is that for the Cardassians, especially that subtle blue tint on the females.

I think the job they did with T'Pol the Vulcan Sub Commander was oustanding. There are different earpoint locations and wigs to match her emotions. Her Vulcan signature bangs are constantly moved around to suit the scene. Best hair and makeup in Trek.

The facial hair wasn't bad at all. The offensive thing was that butt ugly uniform, which thankfully they replaced pretty fast.

But I don't think that it's necessary to assume that because on modern Earth we have a clear delineation between reptiles and mammals, that on another planet such a delineation would happen. In fact, had evolution gone differently, and the Permian-Triassic extinction not occurred, it is possible sentient life on this planet could have evolved in just such a therapsid form; we have ancestors like that, way back in time. It wouldn't be a certainty, but it would be a possibility.

I agree, those early uniforms were ridiculous. I did like that "chest protrusion" style they came up with later. Looked like they could inflict some serious damage just chest lunging at someone. ;)

But wow... are you a bio scientist or something? Your references ventured into "the dark place" for me. :) I'd no idea that there would be some plausibility to the idea of warm/cold blooded creature crossbreeding.

Actually, they didn't crossbreed. Warm-blooded creatures evolved from cold-blooded ones, and there was an in-between phase. Those "in-betweens" are the therapsids. (Technically we're therapsids because we evolved from them.)

Here's a little more...

And no...I'm not a scientist. I just had a really detailed book about evolution when I was in the third grade that I really fell in love with. :)
