What was the best Starfleet Ship Design ?

The Miranda class. I don't know if it's the best from a design standpoint, but aesthetically the Reliant gets my vote.

Sovereign is the best designed starfleet ship

Intrepid comes 2nd, Defiant 3rd and Galaxy Glass comes 4th

I know I have listed those ^....I thought I might as well other best desgins too....here:

Akira Class
New Orleans
Ambassador
Excelsior

Thats about it to add to the list :)

For function I'd go with the Defiant and Constitution two ships proven to be combat effective, as for appearance I'd go with the TMP refit Enterprise.

1. NCC-1701 - movie era version
2. Galaxy class;
2a. Galaxy class AGT variant
3. Sovereign class
4. NCC-1701 - TOS version - only changes I'd make would be to add phaser banks to the top of the saucer - what would happen if a Klingon vessel were straight above the bridge? We only ever saw the phasers under the saucer....lol.
5. Excelsior class - NCC1701B version. Looks better to me.

And 1-4 are very close together. Each holds a special memory in Trek for me.

Worst:
1. JJ Abrams' NCC-1701 - engineering hull too small, photorps should be in saucer, no scoops should be on nacelles, hull too busy, bridge design from Apple, Inc.; only thing I like is that it got the phasers on top of the saucer.
2. Oberth class

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. There's a lot of people who think the Galaxy is an abomination.

I'm one of them. Giant elliptical saucer, tiny nacelles, a flat engineering hull, phasers that 'whip' around a track before firing - the thing looked like an armored jellyfish.

1701 refit for me.

4. NCC-1701 - TOS version - only changes I'd make would be to add phaser banks to the top of the saucer - what would happen if a Klingon vessel were straight above the bridge? We only ever saw the phasers under the saucer....lol.
We never really SAW the banks under the saucer, either. There probably were phaser emitters all over the ship. The popular theory is that they normally stayed retracted behind hull plates and only popped out when needed.

For my money (I forgot that money went the way of the dinosaurs in the late 22nd century) It's got to be the Intrepid Class ie Voyager. I think of Voyager as the F-18 Hornet of Star Fleet. Not to big, Not to Small, smart and quick with enough firepower to face down a BORG Cube (at least for a while)

Would have loved to have seen Voyager in battle with the Jem-Hadar...

Resistance is Futile

My favorite canon ship design has always been the Prometheus-class, seen in Message in a Bottle and Endgame.
I love the look, for one. Like a giant spear. It has alot of "teeth", which is never a bad thing. The interiors were nice. And the MVAM was always pretty cool.

My second pick would have to be Excelsior-class. For some reason this ship has always been a favorite of mine, and its without question, the most valuable starship in Federation history, challenged only by the Constitution class. The sleek look and well rounded design of the ship makes it very useful.
