What was the Ark of Truth built?

Just watched the Ark of Truth again in HD from Netflixs.
Looks great in HD btw.

But why did the Alteran build it? If im correct here in my thinking that everyone was Alteran and the main group called themselves ORI and rejected tech and believed in only one way to ascend while the group of Alterans that we call the Ancients thought they could get there with science.

So if they were all the same people then why would they need an ark of truth for? So they can convince rest of the group of what?

Or was there already a group of ascended Alterans called the Ori that wanted everyone to worship them?
And our Ancients knew they werent gods and figured to get out of dodge?

Before the Alterans even left their homeworld. In the prelude of the film, they discuss using it before deciding it'd make them use as bad as the Ori, so what would be the point? Then they leave in their giant flying city.

Good question, because at that time, no one was ascended, not the Ori and not the Ancients, so what was the point of it then?

Well the ones we saw later on, on the Ori/Alterans homeworld, were just descendants that were seeded there I think, the Alterans left, the rest were Ori and they eventually ascended, so maybe the Ori seeded life in that galaxy like the Ancients did in ours, maybe there is a Dakara like device somewhere in that galaxy too... they really never dove into much about their home galaxy sadly, like how the descendants got there, heh
