what was janeway doing in 'the night'?

At least when she crashed a ship or blew it up, it was because she intended to.

A comparison of the different Captains' ways of handling a crisis:

Kirk: Fistfight/verbal poker

Picard: Call a staff meeting

Sisko: Play with his baseball

Janeway: Grab her phaser rifle/set the self-destruct

*didn't mention Archer because I never watched enough to notice what he does in a crisis
archer? fistfight, but losing it. i liked how janeway handled the situation with the aliens who poked needles in her head, too. she's the most determined of the bunch, but at the same time the one who wields the most of soft power.

she's the most determined of the bunch, but at the same time the one who wields the most of soft power.

But not "too" soft. I love that scene in season 2's Resistance" where she's fighting with the "storm troopers" who are trying to take Tuvok, Torres and Janeway into custody. POW! SOCK! BAM! I'd like to point out that they had to SHOOT the woman to take her down! ;-)

(I just noticed, that this "ship running low on supplies and stranded on a moon" story came immediately after "Manuevers", an ep where the Kazon damaged Voyager during a Seska inspired raid.)

I also love the look of the scene in "Chute" when she slides down into the prison with Compression Phaser rifle at the ready.

Speak softly, but carry a VERY big gun!
