What usernames should NEVER be changed?

^ Agreed, that's why I'll always be Thor Damar. I mean where else do you get the name of a mythological god of thunder and a Cardassian revolutionary?

And I would keep the username Praetor, I like Romulan shtick it's much more entertaining than the Klingon version. (no sense of timing, most uncivilized if you ask me).

I'll cast my vote for Neryrs Ghemor it's a great name.

Now where is my Kanar...

Me too. I also get thrown for a loop whenever someone changes their avatar. It's to the point that I changed mine away from Optimus Prime, deciding he'd run his course, and ended up changing it back just a few hours later. I was reading my own posts and thinking "yeah, I agree with that guy... wait what!?" too much.

It's still a NickInABox

And still here, I see. ;)

Indeed. Why hadn't I nominated you yet? :rommie:

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Then again, if I became Chancellor or Emperor, I could also do Palpatine shtick. Hmm...

Yes, that is quite a good one, too.

Well why not really? Sure you take it yourself, but otherwise it's just like a realy name and people change those sometimes. Have a good friend who was given a name that she didn't really feel was "her" and thus when she turned 18 she changed it to a part of the name and added a letter to create a unique name that I haven't heard elsewhere and above all, is totally her!

I agree with Scout to an extent. If you find a username that fits you better, have at it, but I like when the names stay the same, because the online enviroment makes it possible that not only does your name change, but your face will change too. Hell, I think the only reason I still remember that Dennis used to be Starship_Polaris was because people would always call him Dennis "back then" too!

However, a change up can also be for the best at times. I know that when Superman switched usernames, I liked him a lot more... it may have been because he was posting differently, or it may have just as easily been because my mind didn't immediately connect his posts to whatever beefs I had with his previous name. But overall, I like the something to stay consistant, whether it be the face or the name.

Yeah, it was Dennis + his last name, then UWC_Defiance, then Starship Polaris, and finally Dennis.

Since everyone calls him Dennis anyway, I guess he gave up. I guess his identity isn't going to be a secret no matter what he does, so he might as well just go with the flow.

Ok, so he's always been Dennis, but from my short tenure here, I always thought he was Starship Polaris... I stand corrected.

Wasn't there a previous username Kukalaka before they changed it?

^ Yes. I do remember. She was a very nice person. Big fan of Alexander Siddig. Slightly liberal, had a website she used to advertise called KuSidCity before she changed her name thusly.

J.
I better not use it then. On another board, I'm Ladyhawke, because Ria didn't work there. I considered it for here when I registered but I thought it sounded a bit too pompous. Maybe I was wrong. I honestly didn't know the first thing about BBS usernames. I'd lurked for... what? 5 minutes before I registered, and I was a forum virgin. But Ria is me, so that's fine. Not too fangirl-like or presumptuous. :D It's just that I'm a bit tired of the number. Wait, there's no 6-character minimum here. I could just chuck it and be plain Ria.

And Wicca who Wonta is a great name.

Is he in witness protection or something?

Of the opinion that NO ONE should really change their name. In an online environment, where your screen name is really all you have to identify yourself, you become linked to it very quickly. I know that I've build up opinions on posters (both good and bad), and then they've changed their names and i've lost them. No idea who they are now, even if I see it mentioned occasionally, I just can't keep them straight.

I agree with Scout. Which isn't surprising because I seem to do that a lot. Which just reinforces the point.

Chances are, if you're a poster who has changed your name, you're just a new poster to me. I have absolutely no time, patience, or desire to keep track of people's usernames over time. I'm not going to even try.

As much as I don't care for my own screen name, I'm not going to be changing it. It was an inside joke at the time, which is not a good way to come up with a screen name! Oh well. Get used to it!

That's kinda reinforcing my point, though. You can SEE this person, you know who she is. Here, we don't have anything but our user names and avatars. Change those, and i don't know you from a random newbie in the TrekXI forum. Except for those posters who are here 24/7 and catch on, you're lost to the rest of us.

Exactly why I think you shouldn't change. You're losing your history with everyone else, positive and negative. You were treating him differently because you didn't know who he was, and lost any history you had. Good if you NEED a fresh start, but more likely that you caused trouble because of your style or choices, so it'll just spring up again, and then you're changing your name to stay ahead of your personality, which is sad.

what can I say? It's pretty great always being right! :techman:

Exactly. Seems like, a lot of the time, the people changing are eventually changing back anyway, so all they've accomplished is losing people for a while. J.Allen posted in this thread, what did HE call himself for a little while?

In my head, we've "lost" a lot of people that used to post here, while there are random newbies that for some reason have high rank. Some of them I liked, some I didn't, but it sucks that they lost all that history and association in my head just because of an arbitrary name change...

You have to keep your previous name in your location or sig for awhile so people know who you are.
