What to do in Chicago?

This Saturday, my father, half-brother, & I will be leaving on a massive 14 day cross country road trip. One of the major stops will be to visit my sister in Chicago. Any recommendations for what to do while I'm there?

Chicago is a great place with a lot to do. I would recommend a visit to Field Museum of Natural History. There are many wonderful exhibits including Sue, the world's largest and most complete Tyrannosaurus Rex and the infamous man-eating Tsavo Lions (The Ghost and the Darkness).

Warmest Wishes,
Whoa Nellie

Get a Chicago Hot Dog.

I also recommend you try to get dinner at The Berghoff, which is a kick-ass German restaurant downtown.

Cubs/Sox games are good advice.

Go see Sue at the Field Museum.

The Museum of Science and Industry used to be good, I don't know if it still is. They used to have a pretty smoking HO model railroad layout.

You may wish to try Kuma's Corner: http://www.kumascorner.com/html/about.html It was recently featured on Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. It looks to be a biker bar/heavy metal hamburger joint that caters to all tastes.

The Magnificent Mile and Woodfield Mall are both great shopping destinations.

I know JKTim doesn't post much around here anymore, but he's a native, and would have great ideas. You may wish to flip him a PM.

IIRC, doesn't Jackson Archer live there too? I seem to remember him taking personal credit for some of the spy photos he took of The Dark Knight shooting on location there.

Depends on what your interests are. I always recommend the Art Institute to anyone passing through, if they have even a small interest in art. It's absolutely fantastic with a large range of items. It's also next to Millenium Park which I'm not fond of but you may want to at least visit.

Another fun thing would be to do a river cruise or architectural tour.

Navy Pier is nice, but probably nicer for children. As an adult I pretty much only go there if I feel like walking about, or if I'm going to the Shakespeare Theatre.

If you're looking for food, lounge, bar scenes etc., that's a different story.

Metromix should have a listing of if there are any special events going on during your stay ... check that out. I love some of the summer events like dancing in the park, or movies in the park.

Another vote for the Museum of Science and Industry. The very best tehcnology museum I have ever visited.

Also, Chicago has White Castles! Ya gotta try them.

^^^ Oh yes, both the Field Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry are quite good as well. The Shedd Aquarium is nice enough if you like fishy sorts of things, which I don't.

As many Cubs and White Sox games as possible, of course.
I have only gone to one Cubs game this year, and it's pissing me off! It was also opening day, and it was SNOWING! Booooooooo!

That said, yes, try to go to a Cubs and/or Sox game. Cubs games are better only because Wrigley Field is awesome.

No luck with Cubs games. Last I saw, they were in Philadelphia getting totally killed by the Phillies. I'm not really interested in the White Sox. I'm not really interested in the Cubs either but I love Wrigley Field.

Lou Malnati's for pizza. Hot dogs seem to be the same so long as they are kosher. It's how well it's dressed and the quality of fries that makes the difference there. If you go downtown, most of the hot dog/burger joints in the South Loop are reliable.
