When we last had Disney +, i think it was a free trial + 1 month, in order to watch Mulan. we also saw the Mandalorian. We were thinking of getting it again at the end of March (Spring Break for Chicago Public Schools is then). So Mandolorians Season 2 and WandaVision and Falcon & Winter Soldier are a part of the must-see. But what else should we look for? Genre shows/movies for sure. But anything else that sticks out at you? Any series we should wait for? Or just wait until the next binge time?
I haven't yet finished The Imagineering Story, which is mainly about the Disney parks told mainly from the perspective of its inventors, but the 2/3rds of it I've seen so far is excellent.
If you've never seen Hamilton, it's on Disney+, and I highly recommend it. Also, Soul, by Pixar, is excellent.
There are some episodes of the old Disneyland show centered on space. There's one about Mars and one about manned space exploration, both were aired in the 1950s. Wernher Von Braun is on the Man in Space one. Both the US and Soviet governments requested copies of it, so it may have started the space race.
I agree with Mr. Adventure, I'd definitely check out Isle of Dogs, a wonderful movie by Wes Anderson (The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Rushmore) I also really enjoyed The World According to Jeff Goldblum (but I'd mention if you're not a fan of his, you definitely won't like this )
The Muppet Show went up on Disney+ yesterday, and amazingly enough there's only two episodes missing: Brooke Shields (they do a sketch with songs from The Wizard of Oz, and the music rights for that are a giant mess) and Chris Langham (totally understandable on account of his conviction for possession of child porn). Apparently a few random songs and sketches are missing from some episodes, but considering all the music clearances involved (this is why Seasons 4 and 5 never came out on DVD in the U.S.), it's impressively intact.
That’s the same reason they barely did any SNL complete seasons. When they did it cost around $90 and I think they stopped at season 4. Also if they tried to do that now they’d have to answer for the fact that half their 80s/90s characters were racial stereotypes and there was occasional blatantly anti-LGBT humor. Or the fact the the 90s that the cast had 0 black people, 3 women, one of them was fired for boycotting an episode Andrew Dice Clay hosted.
Chris Rock (1990-93), Ellen Cleghorne (1991-95), Tim Meadows (1991-2000), and Tracy Morgan (1996-2003) would like to have a word with you...
I was talking about one specific slice of time, not the entire period. There was no one in between Eddie Murphy and Chris Rock.
