What things DELIGHTED you the most on ENT?

WHAT DELIGHTED YOU?

All the 2 and 3 episode "prequel" story arcs of Season 4. I love how they tied in to so much of the future continuity while still being good stories. I watch them all as 90 or 135 minute feature-length movies. Even with the wacky resolution of the wacky Temporal Cold War and the lame final episode, I can honestly say I love ENT Season 4 overall better than any season of TOS overall!

One thing (or a couple of things) I do have to give ENT credit for:

Where TNG tried to get away from any reference of TOS (I don't know why, given it is a 'Trek' show being 'the next generation')...ENT actually had Orion girls and Orion traders, Tellerites....Andorians. Cool races from Trek that we haven't really seen since the 60s....or at least since TOS. Furthermore, we even had a kick-ass bi-logy that featured a Constitution-class and continuation of a TOS episode....

And even on top of that, ENT used Brent Spiner's Arik Soong character for a spin-off of the Khan incident.

Basically, the things that 'delighted me the most'....

It's not a matter of being backwards... Some can't afford high-speed and some live in sparsely populated rural areas where it isn't available. Count yourself lucky.

Yeah, but my mom and some of my aunts/uncles live in a very rural area on the south shore of Nova Scotia, still can't get cable, have to rely on sat. just got their LAN phone lines in about 5 years ago but still have high speed. I mean Nova Scotia sure ain't Ontario or Washington..... but I can't remember the last time I came across anybody here who's still on dial-up.

In fact, in the several forums and online communities I venture to each day, I don't think there's one person on dial-up in any of them.

Is there anybody in these forums on dial-up that you remember seeing? :vulcan:

Just curious.

Uhhh... because it's courteous? Because the board rules ask you to?

We are less stringent about the image size limits than we used to be, and if y'all want to turn this appreciation thread into a picture thread, you are welcome to post images the size of the screencaps you commonly see in the caption threads. But please don't post ginormous pictures that would stretch the page and take forever to load. Use common sense. If your image is huge, post a thumbnail and a link.

Fair enough.... where I live, Dial-Up has kinda gone the way of floppy disks since most high speed ISP's around here dropped their costs below the average dial-up monthly charges a few years back..... as far as I know, dial-up isn't much of an option anywhere you live around here.

I've been under the assumption for years that I'm the last one. I'm accustomed to avoiding pictures and not being able to watch video, so no one need bother to go out of their way to accommodate me. ;)

I stand corrected then.

Setting aside this discussion is off topic -- I'll leave that to HR to deal with -- yes, I do know of at least one member of these boards who is on dialup. As I noted, it's not just about availability, it can also be about $$.

Here is the very first time we see someone who most delighted me.. see how T'Pol is always checking out his reaction, LOL

I liked that Archer was a nice middle between Kirk and Picard. Kirk was a cowboy and Picard, well he's the head of the Royal Shakespeare theater, need I say more. There's nothing cowboy about Picard. I don't remember Kirk being very level headed unless Spock made him.
I like that Archer was paired with a Vulcan. Kind of sheds some lite on Spock-Kirk. Also, the relationship that develops between Archer and T'Pol somewhat mirrored the relationship between Spock and Kirk.
I thought Trip was a good nod of the head to Scotty also. He had an accent, was a genius in the engine room, and did some things to really pee off the Captain when it came to relations with the "natives".
I didn't care for Reed much at all. I kind of thought he should be in the closet with R. Kelly and Tom Cruise. For that matter I didn't care for Hoshi much either. Both were flat characters.
Archer was definitely round and watching his evolution made the mirror universe episodes that much more exciting to watch.
Who doesn't love Captain Shran! How could you not love him and his little blue antennae? The relationship between him and Archer was complex.
I don't know about timelines, and I have limited knowledge of canon. I'm not watching the shows to anal-yze them to death for their accurateness or reality-like-ness. I watch them because ultimately they are fun. They are stimulating intellectually and funny on a higher than slap stick level. Sometimes they are thought provoking. It also helped me cope with some very devastating situations in my life.
So, if I'm totally retarded in my comparisons of TOS and ENT, you know what, I don't care.

Delighted ...
Bakula's acting performance
Seeing a Vulcan woman handled so well for the first couple of seasons
Shran
"Meeting" the Andorians
Seeing Vulcan in The Forge trilogy
Trip's comic relief of the first two seasons
Ties to TOS when they weren't neon signs flashing to episodes
Episodes that revealed more about characters, like back stories
Episodes that showcased people really caring (not sex) for each other
Seeing a phase pistol used to create a hole in a floor board
Seeing Trip and Reed try to hit on women together and get into trouble

Just a couple of things off the top of my head:

- Shran, obviously
- Life outside Starfleet, i.e. Horizon. Although we never really got much more elaboration on that aspect
- Shuttlepods before transporters (early on at least)
- MACOs - implying that Starfleet hadn't adopted a particularly militaristic attitude at this point and specially trained people needed to be brought in.
- Spatial torpedoes, hull plating and plasma cannons. It's retro enough ;)
- Alien languages being a problem
- A darker atmosphere for season 3 than even DS9 gave us at times
- I think it goes without saying that season 4 was full of little gems and references to the previous series
- Vulcan attitudes evolving. I have to admit, I loved the idea of them being superior and arrogant early on and causing friction with humans at times.
- Archer not being bound by the Prime Directive and occasionally doing stuff that we know none of the other captains would do (even Kirk :p)
- Section 31
- Oh and this: "A POOP question, sir?!" Finally addressing what we'd all been asking for nearly 40 years :p

I was very delighted by..

Old T'Pol. For one thing she made the RIGHT decision! She's wise and tempered and at peace with herself, quite a contrast to her younger counterpart. It's wonderful to see how a person grows into their own nature.. NuSpock and Prime Spock were similarly delightful when seen together.

Well, I checked the Connor box, natch! :adore:

Confession: I watched Season 1 and most of Season 2 when it was first-run. Due to scheduling conflicts with hockey, it was never on at the same time and so by the end of Season 2 I stopped working so hard to keep up with it...I was a little disappointed in some respects.

A couple of years ago, after a visit to Star Trek: The Experience before it closed, I caught a Viewers Choice marathon on SyFy. I saw "Harbinger," "Home," "Bound," "Demons/Terra Prime"...and had I known the TnT stuff was gonna come to fruition (because face it, after the decon scene in "Broken Bow" I did have certain expectations ;)) I would've hung in there.

Now...I can't say that I understand how some fans continue to mercilessly trash on certain aspects of the show. It's too late to change anything...and I'd rather love the show for what it is, despite its flaws.

Two thoughts:
1. Yup.

2. I don't know. Once you get disappointed about something, no matter how small, it can get under your craw. It does seem pointless to me, after all this time, to start threads on how annoyed one is with something, but .... You know, sometimes it's also fun to dislike something.

Overall, Enterprise was a fun series. It had moments of greatness, even despite whatever "bad" episode you might feel there is. It had potential. It had fun characters. Whatever annoyance I might have, I'm glad it was.

I feel ya...but at the same time negativity is never good for any fandom, especially when the negativity is pointless because it A) won't change the aspect of the show you didn't like or B) enhance anyone's enjoyment of the show, especially that of those who end up sifting through all that negativity in order to get to something good. All it does is breed more negativity and alienate people. Stuff happened. Including stuff we didn't like. Make peace with it. It isn't going away.

Don't get me wrong. I'll talk openly about what disappointed me or "what could've been." But I try never to lose sight of the fact that I come to sites like this because I am a fan, here to celebrate something I love, and to connect with others who love it, too.

Furthermore, sometimes I feel like Enterprise takes a particularly hard pounding compared to other shows in the franchise, in terms of stuff being "wrong" with it. Sorry, but each and every Star Trek series was flawed, sometimes glaringly.
