What The Hell Is Going On? (Re: Reviews)

I must admit that I have had my doubts about the movie and I still have my doubts about it.

I'm not too fond of the idea of a "recycled" TOS with other actors than Shatner, Nimoy and the others as Kirk, Spock and the other old favorites.

But if it can create a new interest for Star Trek and bring the sleeping beauty back to life, then it's very positive. :)

that's the spirit. :)

believe me, I hear you. Trek is home to me. it always has been. I shall miss my home that was TOS. my Kirk, my Spock, my Bones... but they live on -- in dvds and movies, in the countless novels and fanfic (yes, fanfic), in my precious memories and in my heart.

but with the advent of nuTrek, the hope that is inherent in Trek will live on in the hearts and minds of my children and grandchildren... forming brand new memories, a brand new home. a brand new future.

and I shall not begrudge them that chance.

uh. okay, okay Sam, settle down.

this board's become way too tetchy lately. May 7th/8th needs to hurry up and get here.

^ Actually, your comments were a little uncalled for. STC's response was to your, "Stop bitching and go see the damned thing yourself!"

Kinda hard when it isn't out yet!

Then you responded with some gibberish about DVDs and six movies.

Weird.

The problem is that haters have been hating this movie without seeing it AND bashing those who are optimistic. The term hater is justified when they call people "traitors" and say "anyone who likes JJ Abram's movie is not a real Trek fan". I am unapologetic in my optimism, in fact, Star Trek's message of OPTIMISM is the reason I became a TOS fan so many years ago.

if you'd actually read my post then you would know that I hadn't "gotten" Sam's post. I flew off of the handle beforehand. hence why I said things are becoming rather tetchy.

stop taking things so "personal", willya. ;)

btw, that word? it really should be "personally".

oh, and there were several free screenings around the country this week. so my point, basically, was... if you haven't seen it, stop spouting.

Sorry, this sounds just a little too much like "two wrongs do make a right" for my liking. (emphasis mine)

We're not keeping score or playing tit-for-tat here, and I'd rather not see the term "hater" tossed around, if it's all the same to you; it's an unnecessary word, an unnecessarily personal one, as I've seen it used, and it's no better than the "traitor" or "not a real Trek fan" you cite here. The best response to anything of that sort is not to dignify it with a response, and always has been.

That's one way to look at it.

It's not reasonable, though, to expect that when people are insulted and ridiculed that even most of them will respond with understanding and kindness. To say "well, mature adults would" with a straight face pretty much requires ignoring the greater part of world history as well as the network nightly news. ;)

I'm pretty well-acquainted with world history, though I have chosen more and more to ignore the network nightly news. Is it not a reasonable expectation? Very well, then: I'll just be unreasonable. ;)

Hang around any ER on a Saturday night and just ask the folks in the waiting area "what happened?" You'll come away with at least one appalling story about Adults Behaving Badly, and probably several.

I hope the movie is a blast and does well. I don't see how it diminishes TOS in any way...they are related but seperate.

Everything I see and hear so far looks good. I rather disliked everything TNG onward, but it looks like this reboot/nutrek whatever you call it might be fun.

It's only OK when they do it, not when I (or others respond). Funny how it always works that way, huh?

I'd prefer people quote the rest of my post, since it is the most important part:
I am unapologetic in my optimism, in fact, Star Trek's message of OPTIMISM is the reason I became a TOS fan so many years ago.

I suspect some took issue with the way your 'optimism' fueled your desire to see fellow posters' "heads explode with frustration!:rommie:"

No, it isn't okay when they do it, either, and it's still not a valid excuse for responding in kind. Just don't do it. And that will be all for this side-topic in-thread; anything further can go to PM.

I was fine with that part.

Meanwhile, back at the (overwhelmingly-positive) reviews... :)
