What the Heck is This?

Does anybody have any idea what this material is? It appears to be some sort of mesh with metal or plastic "beads" attached to one side. I've identified it being used in the Post Apocalyptic Soldier costume from "Encounter at Farpoint." Ferengi Headresses and Klingon Costumes.

Any clues? Was it custom made?

One photo is marked "It's a Wrap!", so they are definitely screen-used TNG gloves, as auctioned by Paramount in the "It's a Wrap!" eBay auctions.

The way the material seems to be splitting between the rows, it would seem to be an artificial chainmail, assembled from tile-like square sequins glued to a fine fabric mesh?

The Paramount material vaults had hundreds of bolts of rare material, some dating back to Cecil B. DeMille days, although this particular material looks quite modern.
